PRESS RELEASE
KOGI STATE POLICE COMMAND COMMEMORATES WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, RALLIES PUBLIC AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The Kogi State Police Command, through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Human Trafficking, on Thursday, 30th July 2026, commemorated the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with a sensitization walk and public awareness rally across Lokoja metropolis aimed at educating members of the public on the dangers of human trafficking and the need for collective action to combat the crime.
The awareness campaign, held under the global theme “Trapped Behind the Scam,” brought together Police officers, POCACOV advocates, the Office of the SSA on Human Trafficking, partner agencies, youth groups, students, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders who took to major streets within Lokoja carrying advocacy messages to sensitize members of the public on the deceptive tactics employed by human traffickers and the importance of vigilance in preventing the crime.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking through sustained public enlightenment, intelligence-led policing, strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders, prompt investigation, and diligent prosecution of offenders. He noted that human trafficking remains a grave violation of human rights that exploits vulnerable persons through false promises of employment, education, migration, and other seemingly attractive opportunities.
The Commissioner called on parents, guardians, community leaders, religious institutions, educational institutions, and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or persons involved in human trafficking. He further urged young people to verify opportunities before making life-changing decisions, emphasizing that increased awareness and timely reporting are critical to preventing victimization and dismantling trafficking networks.
The Kogi State Police Command remains committed to strengthening partnerships, promoting public awareness, protecting vulnerable persons, and intensifying efforts to prevent and combat human trafficking and other related crimes across the State. The Command equally urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information to enhance the safety and security of all residents of Kogi State.

I am thrilled to announce that Nigeria will greatly benefit from the US-Nigeria Bilateral Energy Cooperation, following a productive 3-day Strategic Energy Dialogue in Washington DC. I witnessed significant commitments from the US government to support our nation's energy sector.
The US Department of State's Energy and Mineral Governance Program (EMGP) will provide technical assistance to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. USAID's Power Africa will commit $75-85 million to improve electricity delivery and sustainability. The Clean Energy Alliance of Nigeria (CLEAN) will promote clean energy investment, and the Department of Energy's Net Zero World program will offer $1.3 million in clean energy technical support.
I commend the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for expanding the frontiers in the oil and gas sector, which will fast-track electricity supply and ensure a safer environment. I look forward to continuing the conversation from October 20-30, 2024, and exploring further bilateral synergy.

I am honored to be among a 14-member delegation from Nigeria to the USA-Nigeria Energy Security Dialogue in Washington DC, from September 10-13. This critical event, convened by the US Department of State and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, will bring together global experts to address Nigeria's energy challenges.
I look forward to sharing my insights and experiences on the country's energy sector. Over the past 10 months, we have made significant strides in advancing the energy cause in sub-Saharan Africa, and I am excited to showcase our milestones.
The dialogue aligns with our goals of promoting energy access, security, decarbonization, clean energy supply chains, and methane emissions reduction. I believe that this collaboration with the US government will be instrumental in achieving our shared energy and climate objectives.
I am proud to represent Nigeria and the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) at this prestigious event, and I am committed to working together to ensure a sustainable energy future for our nation.
