I’m very aware people think the threat of climate change is hysterical and overblown. But then there’s this. This is fact. A graph from the University of Reading. Does this look okay to you?

🧵As the Government unveils plans to boost clean power, worth noting how much public sentiment has shifted to seeing clean energy not just as good, but as a no-brainer. All voter groups (inc Reform) are more likely to think renewables will cut cost of living than raise it

A step change:
The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that in 2030, variable renewables account for 2/3 of global renewable electricity generation, rising from less than 45% today.
Solar becomes the number one source of renewable electricity generation.

> India up 70%
> China down 68%
Come on India, you can do this:
>Faster renewables
>Cut dirty coal
>Scrubbers on smokestacks
>Stricter emissions standards
>Electrify everything
>Enforce environmental regs
Just arrived back in Delhi to find the city embalmed in an all-enveloping burial shroud of pollution. Even at 2pm impossible to see 100m across the runway.
I've never seen anything like this in forty years of living here. What a fate for the City of Djinns- still, at its best the most fascinating of cities, but currently a tragic, choking death-trap.

I keep hearing that heat pumps are a niche technology and will never take off.
Look at the market share of heat pumps in different European countries - in 8 countries most new heating systems installed are now heat pumps.

To be clear: the US election result is a blow in the fight against the climate crisis. The window to limit warming to 1.5°C is closing—these next 4 years are critical. But let’s not despair. The Paris Agreement has proven resilient, stronger than any one country’s policies (1/10)

What does a Trump win mean for COP29?
The incoming climate denier will loom large. But before panic sets in, we should examine the lessons from history.
The task at hand is for the rest of the world to show the value of multilateral climate cooperation.

Our MRP found there was not a single constituency in Britain where concern about climate change falls below 50% of the electorate. Voters across the political spectrum expected politicians to take action to tackle it.
Ed Miliband painted a bleak picture of climate change impacts at this morning's cabinet.
"Climate change is a threat to national security & growth, given [it] could force more than 200m people globally to migrate, the global economy could be 19% smaller in 2049 than it would be otherwise & it could put an additional 600,000 people in UK at risk of flooding."
Very clear dividing line with Tories given Kemi Badenoch has suggested she wants to delay/ scrap UK's net zero targets.
