Ansaru claims responsibility for the assassination of popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, accusing him of being an infidel.
In an audio recording confirming responsibility for the killing, Ansaru said it carried out the attack at around 8:30 pm. While the speaker mentioned 'Talata' (Tuesday) as the day the attack took place, which could have been a mistake, the incident actually happened yesterday, Monday.
Ansaru accused Masussuka of being anti-Islam. It did not mention any specific offence he had committed, though it suggested that the cleric's promotion of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence may have contributed to his killing.
The assassination adds to a series of security incidents in northwest Nigeria, as insecurity worsens ahead of next year's elections.
The fact that Ansaru has claimed responsibility provides authorities with an opportunity to concentrate their efforts on the group and unravel the identities of those directly behind the attack. This is even more important given that the group also threatened those it described as enemies of Islam.
In addition to Zaria, Kaduna, Kano and Abuja, Katsina has also been a prominent base for Ansaru over the years.

I will never stop reminding northerners that there is no regular bloodshed in any part of Southern Nigeria. But there is
Bloodshed in Zamfara
Bloodshed in Kebbi
Bloodshed in Katsina
Bloodshed in Sokoto
Bloodshed in Kaduna
Bloodshed in Borno
Bloodshed in Kwara
Bloodshed in Plateau
Northerners are massacred on daily basis under Tinubu. His catastrophic failure in the North is why he needs massive northern PR. 2027 is a choice between our security or terrorism.

The 42 abducted children of Mussa School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno state have spent 148 days in captivity today! I’m calling on the government and our armed forces to #BringBornoChildrenHome the same way they rescued the teachers and children of the school kidnapping that happened on the same day in Oyo State!!!

Something we do not say enough: your Nigerian degree got you into that US program. Whatever people think of Nigerian universities today, that Obafemi Awolowo, Ibadan, Unilag, Nsukka, Ife or Zaria transcript opened the first door.
Be proud of it. Then keep going.

The killings in the North are so underreported that Southerners think bandits have vanished.
Shame on Northerners.

The Southerners made the most noise when those in Oyo were kidnapped. They protested, launched media campaign, were persistent on social media. Let the North also come out for theirs. Can't cry more than the bereaved.

We used to have sheikhs and elders in the north before. Now, we are just left with hungry people and the ones that don’t practice what they preach.

The moment you travel abroad, you realize Nigeria's problems aren't a lack of resources they're a result of decades of poor leadership and wickedness.

Wallahi azeem Nigeria isn’t in a good state and God will punish everyone who has a hand in our current situations. Nigerians needs to stop pretending like there’s nothing bad happening in the country. We must hold these our crook leaders accountable for all the mess in the country or else our next generation will suffer more.
