Prison is not and never will be a space of safety.
In light of today's Safety in Custody statistics, showing again rising levels of self-harm, we echo @WIP_live's calls for the government to prioritise prevention, and invest in the community-based support women really need.

Stats released by @MoJGovUK today show that between January and March, incidents of self-harm have increased 29% in women's prisons.

Our thoughts are with Brianna Ghey’s family and friends today, as her murderers are due to be sentenced. Brianna’s tragic death is a stark reminder of the abuse and hostility trans young people can face in our society. No one should be discriminated against, hurt or killed for being who they are.
