A word of caution here.... The old spiritual masters all say the same thing: not every light is from God, and the first job of anyone on the path is to tell them apart. What they warn about most isn't temptation to do wrong. It's the feeling of being chosen. Nothing opens the door to self-delusion faster, and the subtlest counterfeits don't come as darkness. Paul said it bluntly: the adversary dresses as an angel of light. Ignatius worked out the mechanics in his rules for discernment. The deceiver starts with good and holy thoughts, the ones your own soul would have, and then bends them a few degrees at a time toward his own end. John of the Cross went so far as to tell people to refuse visions altogether, even true ones, because God doesn't need them and the devil loves it when we crave them. Teresa gave the only test that holds up: a true word leaves you quiet, humble, and more loving. A false one leaves you restless, self-important, and hungry for more. That's why it stopped me when Jacques Vallée, who has studied this phenomenon longer and more seriously than anyone alive, concluded that whatever it is, it lies. The scientist and the mystics walked different roads to the same door. Which brings me to Chris Bledsoe. The early messages from the Lady were intriguing, and I'll admit that. It compelled me to buy his book. But he has since told us who she is, and it isn't the Mary of the Gospels. By his own account she calls herself Hathor, the cow-eared mother-goddess of Egypt, and claims Isis, Diana, Hera, Sophia, and the Virgin Mary as her other faces. The Mary of Nazareth never once pointed at herself. Every apparition the Church has ever taken seriously ends with her pointing at her Son. A lady who collects the names of the goddesses and adds Mary to the list is telling you her lineage, and it's an old one. After all my years of study, one thing persuades me. Jesus Christ is not one more name a shape-shifting spirit can try on. He is ontologically different from every other claim, the original the counterfeits are copying, and the only one that rings true at the bottom of the human heart. I worry for Bledsoe, and I mean that kindly. Public condemnation will do what it always does: it will harden pride into defensiveness, and his family will take the wounds. The masters would ask only one question. Where is the fruit? I don't see the fruit of the Spirit here. I see deception, and I'd be very careful about who it is he's actually talking to.
