First up is Srividya Ramakrishnan talking about "Living Fossils" - species that havent changed in morphology for millions of years (~age of dinosaurs). Here we are focusing on Wollemi pine, a critically endangered coniferous tree from Australia.
Good morning San Diego! Looking forward to all the great talks at #PAG2025 this week. Here are a few that I can recommend: Amazing plants, long reads, genome editing, microbiomes, bioifx education, DNA/RNA-mods, and assembly, annotation, & more! Make sure to stop by to say hi! 👋

With heavy hearts we share that James Taylor, Professor of Biology and Professor of Computer Science, died on Thursday, April 2. He was a trailblazer in computational biology and genomics research. His loss is devastating at Hopkins and around the globe. bit.ly/2wbE92R

Last week I agreed to toast James Watson for the Human Genome Project on his 90th birthday. My brief comment about his being “flawed” did not go nearly far enough. His views are abhorrent: racist, sexist, anti-semitic. I was wrong to toast. I apologize.

Really excited by Jase Gehring's new work on multiplexing scRNA-Seq. One of the largest scRNA-Seq experiments to date (in terms of samples) but costing only a few thousand $.
