People respond poorly to Taash in Dragon Age for the same reason Will’s coming out scene in Stranger Things is so widely ridiculed.
It’s not a rejection of representation — but a recognition of how bizarre it is that when the world is supposedly at stake, we are supposed to stop and have a discussion about non-traditional sexuality and gender expression.
It’s a demonstration that the writers don’t actually take the stakes of the story they are building seriously at all.

I don’t care how special our relationship is with Great Britain.

When you are out there trying to make a group look bad, don't send reddit moderators. Anyone else looks good by comparison.
I grew up on BioWare games since Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights.
Their games were magical because they pioneered giving you choice to play the hero you wanted to be — with decisions of consequence, dynamic characters and compelling stories.
By the end, however, activists put all those things aside to force you to play the character they wanted you to be.
