Key moments from Geneva.
On 23 October, four years to the day after Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya, EuroPak inaugurated the Arshad Sharif Human Rights Award at the Geneva Press Club.
His killers have still not been brought to justice. His mother died waiting. But his name will not fade.
He gave his blood, but he never gave up his pen or his voice. Every year, this award will pass them on to a journalist or human rights defender who refuses to be silenced.
Thank you @ImranRiazKhan and @ARYSabirShakir for your powerful words, @PressClubGva for welcoming us, and every journalist and guest who stood with us.
Nominations open 1 March 2027.
A journalist can be killed. The truth he carried cannot.

MERCILESS CRACKDOWN IN KASHMIR: FIRING REPORTED AMID COMMUNICATION BLACKOUT AS EXPLOSIONS ECHO IN THE BACKGROUND
EuroPak Association retweeted
Concerning reports of further unlawful killings in Azad Kashmir have emerged since the UN experts raised serious concerns over the human rights violations.
There must be full accountability. The bloodshed must end, communications restored and peaceful dialogue resumed, with the inalienable human rights of Kashmiris at the heart of any resolution.

🚨 International NGOs condemn the sentencing of human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha to 10 years in prison under anti-terrorism legislation.
We call for their immediate release, the quashing of their convictions and an end to judicial harassment.

In 1980, a South Korean military court sentenced opposition leader Kim Dae-jung to death in a sham trial. The world refused to stay silent, and his life was spared. Seventeen years later he was elected President and went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
History is repeating itself in Pakistan.
@ImranKhanPTI , Pakistan’s most popular leader, has been imprisoned since August 2023 on fabricated cases, by courts under the control of Field Marshal Asim Munir. He has spent more than a year in solitary confinement. His wife, sisters, nephew and cousin are also behind bars. His health is deteriorating, and he is being denied independent medical care.
This is a slow killing.
Imran Khan will walk free and lead Pakistan again, as Kim Dae-jung led Korea. But that depends on the world speaking now.
To every leader, government and institution that embraces, funds or legitimises Asim Munir: if anything happens to Imran Khan, history will not record you as bystanders, but as partners in his killing.
Do not be on the wrong side of history.

🚨 URGENT HUMAN RIGHTS ALERT
PAKISTAN 🚨
IMRAN KHAN'S LIFE IS BEING PUT IN GRAVE DANGER.
After 7 months without access, his lawyer finally met him on 2 November. The message to his family was alarming: his blood pressure had reportedly reached 192.
How much longer can the world remain silent?
His family demands immediate transfer to an independent hospital, access to his personal physician and proper medical treatment.
Is prolonged isolation and denial of adequate healthcare putting his life at risk? The authorities must answer. We call on the international community to ACT NOW.

We stand with @amnesty’s concerns. Pakistan cannot claim to uphold human rights while denying economic, social and political freedoms. The current authoritarian government has imposed Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid the reported abduction of its Chief Minister. Meanwhile, concerns are mounting over foreign investors being offered access to mineral resources in areas facing so-called “counterterrorism operations.”
Are these operations about security or resources and control?
Pakistan needs constitutional rule, transparency and accountability, not repression disguised as security.

December 1894, Paris. Captain Alfred Dreyfus, an officer on the French general staff, is convicted of passing military secrets to Germany. The trial is held behind closed doors. The judges see a secret file his lawyers are never shown.
He is shipped to Devil's Island and held there for four years in near-total isolation, at times shackled to his bed at night.
In 1896 the army discovers the real traitor: another officer. Instead of admitting its mistake, it protects him. He is tried and acquitted.
In January 1898 the novelist Émile Zola publishes an open letter, "J'accuse…!", accusing the army of a cover-up. Zola is convicted of libel and forced to flee to England.
In 1899 Dreyfus is tried again and found guilty again. He is pardoned, but not cleared.
Only in 1906 does France's highest court declare him innocent. He is restored to the army and awarded the Legion of Honour.
Twelve years. An institution that would rather protect itself than admit a mistake, courts that went along, and a public told the accused was a traitor.
My uncle @ImranKhanPTI has been in prison since August 2023. In 2024 the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found his detention arbitrary and called for his immediate release. In December 2025 the UN Special Rapporteur on torture raised alarm at reports that he is kept alone in his cell for up to 23 hours a day.
He is still in prison.
In 1897 Zola wrote: "The truth is on the march, and nothing will stop it."

Dr. Usman Khan makes a powerful argument on Substack: Pakistan does not need a reformist army. It needs constitutional government. The answer to Pakistan’s crisis is not a more “reformed” military, but a state where elected representatives govern, institutions respect their constitutional limits, and no one stands above the law. Read, reflect, and share. Pakistan needs constitutional democracy not military guardianship.

In Argentina, mothers walked the Plaza de Mayo every week asking where their children were. The generals dismissed them. In 1983 the junta fell. In 1985 its leaders stood trial.
For three years, @Aleema_KhanPK, @Noreen_KhanPK and @DrUzma_KhanPK went to Adiala Jail every Tuesday to ask to see their brother @ImranKhanPTI. Since 21 September, they too have been held without charge. @oxwali
The generals in Buenos Aires underestimated women who kept showing up. The generals in Pakistan are making the same mistake.

EuroPak supports @WPMIntl’s call for the protection of the fundamental rights of @ImranKhanPTI ’s sisters, @Aleema_KhanPK , Dr @DrUzma_KhanPK and @Noreen_KhanPK .
We urge the relevant authorities to ensure due process, access to legal counsel and family, and appropriate medical care. We also encourage @UNHumanRights, @amnesty and @hrw to closely monitor the situation.
Human rights, dignity and the rule of law must be upheld without exception.

Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha deserve justice. Today they were sentenced to ten years in prison on counts of “terrorism.” Their crime? Defending activists, lawyers and marginalized communities that were subjected to enforced disappearances and unjust charges.
They underwent an unfair trial for this fearless human rights work. Authorities must immediately release Imaan and Hadi and drop all charges against them.

PAKISTAN: Responding to the conviction and ten-year imprisonment of Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha today by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, Yasmine Ahmed, Senior Director for Regional Human Rights Impact at Amnesty International, said:
“These convictions are an indictment of Pakistan’s justice system. This was not just Imaan and Hadi on trial, it was a test of the judiciary’s ability to uphold the principles of justice and the right to fair trial. It has failed that test miserably. It is clear that these ‘anti-terrorism’ charges are being used to punish Imaan and Hadi for their human rights advocacy.”
