This is crazy. I know the Conservatives said that Andrew Griffith had more business experience than all the Labour cabinet combined, but to see it laid out like this is insane.
This says it all, frankly! h/t @sebs_tweets

Europe has developed a pretty interesting definition of “protecting democracy.” 🇷🇴 Romania annulled a presidential election after Călin Georgescu finished first, then barred him from the rerun. 🇭🇺 Hungary’s new government rewrote the constitution with retroactive limits that block Viktor Orbán from becoming PM again and later approved rules barring long-serving MPs from the next parliamentary election. 🇩🇪 Germany’s domestic intelligence service classified the AfD as extremist, opening the door to much heavier surveillance of the country’s biggest opposition party. 🇫🇷 France upheld Marine Le Pen’s conviction, kept restrictions on her political future and ordered her to wear an electronic ankle tag. 🇪🇸 In Spain, more than a dozen people tied to Pedro Sánchez’s political and personal circle have been investigated or prosecuted in separate corruption cases, while Sánchez himself has not been charged. 🇬🇧 Britain postponed local elections during a sweeping reorganization of local government, triggering a petition accusing the government of voter suppression. 🇵🇱 And now Poland has police surrounding its Constitutional Tribunal while the government and opposition accuse each other of trying to seize control of the court. The real red line in Europe may not be democracy... It may be leaving the club. Writer: Sol

What a spectacular own goal by Tusk and the EU (I'm assuming the EU ok'd this). Riot police on the streets, trampling on constitutional process, waiting til the President is in the air to move things on the ground, dictatorial monologues from what looks like a women's sex podcast studio... None of this is going to win over citizens of a formerly Soviet-bloc country, even ones who might broadly agree with the need for a reset of the judiciary.

The EU calling itself a "democracy" is the biggest joke 😂 🇷🇴 Romania voted wrong, so they cancelled the election and banned the winner. 🇫🇷 France put Le Pen in an ankle tag. 🇩🇪 Germany spies on its biggest opposition party. 🇵🇱 Tonight Poland's Constitutional Tribunal was overthrown, in the middle of the night. This is a TOTALITARIAN regime hiding behind a blue flag. The EU is the opposite of the values it claims to stand for. It must be DESTROYED.

Some things that British voters have forgotten. 🔴Making a profit is no vice. 🔴Inequality is not evil. 🔴The fact that tax cuts chiefly benefit people who pay taxes is not an argument against them. 🔴Governments spend money less well than you do. 🔴There’s no such thing as a free lunch.

Alastair Campbell replied to Zia saying that he "stood more chance of captaining the Sri Lankan cricket team." If someone from Reform UK said that, it would be top a BBC News story for a whole week, followed by 200 posts from Dan Hodges. Two-tier racism.

Prince Albert apologised for slavery back in 1840 in a speech at an international anti-slavery meeting in London. 186 years ago… Perhaps the Prime Minister would do better to focus on the 50 million people enslaved TODAY - four times the number transported throughout 300 years of transatlantic slavery.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham says he’s open to Britain formally apologising for its role in transatlantic slave trade He also hopes to restructure debt for the poorest Commonwealth countries “I want to express my sorrow and regret”

Omg Bash gave his money to CHOOSE LOVE - “for queer refugees and displaced people” - and Romesh donated his to the Refugee Council. The Refugee Council received £41,588,000 from taxpayers between 2021-25 and Choose Love’s total income for 2025 was £12,593,084! They do not need the money. So many small, struggling charities could have done with the help and publicity! #celebritytraitors

If a Tory or Reform figure mentioned the country of origin for a non-white person’s family like this, they would literally be hounded from public life for racism. & Campbell would be leading the charge, frothing at the mouth to destroy that person’s life in the first 45 minutes.
I have heard it from far better people than you and they were wrong too. What I enjoyed was seeing you running away from an argument about Brexit because you would rather talk about anything else. And I loved the smile being wiped from your face when the young woman tore apart your net zero BS. You’ve not nice suits and nice shoes but you’ve got more chance captaining the Sri Lankan cricket team than you have of becoming Home Secretary.

Alastair claims Brexit destroyed our economy, meanwhile chart. Professional liar. The most damage that has been done to our economy has been by the state, believing that: 1. More tax = no consequences 2. More regulation = no consequences
Here’s the @bbcquestiontime clip that triggered the @reformparty_uk “let’s talk about anything but Brexit can we?” approach to debate … even its architects know it has screwed our economy

Why is @BBCNews broadcasting @wesstreeting saying the Tories were in power “5 minutes ago” when that’s clearly a lie aimed at pretending Labour have not been in charge for more than 2 years …. In which they have massively increased welfare spending and taxes? @NJ_Timothy

Healey is one of 210 Labour MPs who has more PIP claimants in his constituency than his majority. And we wonder why they won't touch welfare reform with a barge pole.
6am: Healey tells BBC he will bring down benefits bill before election 8:20: Treasury dispute the story 1pm: No10 disown it saying they have never set a target 2pm: PM says cuts as soon as possible 4pm: Healey says Labour won't bring bill down this Parliament

I want you all to know this. There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months. 13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work. They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace. And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed... There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves. So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?
