(1/2) How did RNA and peptides organize before specific protein sequences existed?
Our new study shows that heterogeneous peptide populations can spontaneously form liquid-like RNA-rich condensates with a model of the ancient ribosome.

Happy to announce that our paper on orphan genes in bacteria dropped in PNAS yesterday!
This is a problem I've been thinking about since the start of my PhD. Grateful for this journey, as well as All The Friends I Made Along the Way.
Also, Eid Mubarak to those who celebrate!

Latest from the lab: we’ve found that arbitrium phages can cross-communicate across species. Their molecular “language” isn’t as private as we thought.
The original idea came from @AlbertoMarina14. As always, he was right.

We are excited to report the discovery of TIGRs, a widely-occurring RNA-guided system found in bacteria and their viruses. TIGRs consist of a peculiar repeat region which is transcribed into RNA and processed into multiple guide RNAs to direct TIGR-associated proteins to their DNA targets. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…
