Meanwhile, away from the stock market conflagration, Community Banks had another boringly decent 1st quarter, growing deposits and making returns...

Deal Dearth:
The bank M&A market has slumped as badly as the markets (hint: related?).
Only 6 deals posted in July, bringing the total to 69 transactions YTD, a run rate that is 34% below last year’s pace. Good news: TBV multiples are up slightly.
We need more animal spirits!
Update-Bank Equity Still Getting Hammered by AOCI:
Final 2Q results show a 17% YTD AOCI hit to bank equity on average, with a growing number of banks suffering over 25% decline YTD. More to come in 3Q?
Bank Equity Still Getting Hammered by AOCI:
Early filings show 2Q TCE eroding, but on average at a slower pace. Over 1 of 4 banks suffering >25% TCE hit YTD. Buckle up...

Party On? The final 1Q numbers are in, and community banks continue to perform very well, with ROA increasing 25% on average, with 90% of banks growing assets (an average of 5.2%) and 50% of all banks posting lower NCOs.
Early Returns: 1Q looks very strong for Community Banks so far, with a 43% increase in PT ROA over 4Q! (with 776 banks reporting to date)
Pandemic? Shmandemic! Community banks still had a tremendous 2020 - who woulda thought? (past results do not guarantee future performance...)
Still holding our credit breath...with final bank 4Q results in, credit trends a mixed bag, but the sky isn't falling (yet). Perhaps most surprising: Big Bank charge-offs declining...
4Q Early Returns: early-filing community banks are showing slight slippage in earnings, and slightly better asset quality, though an increase in 30-89 past dues doesn't bode well
