On October 28, 1835, along the wooded bluffs of the San Antonio River, the opening skirmishes of the Texas Revolution escalated into a decisive trial of frontier grit.  A forward detachment of roughly 90 Texan volunteers—led by James Bowie and James Fannin—found themselves cut off in the dense morning fog by more than 200 Mexican infantry and cavalry. Anchoring their lines in a sunken riverbed beneath Mission Concepción, the outnumbered Texans relied on superior marksmanship, discipline, and quick tactical repositioning to turn back multiple charges and secure a stunning early victory.  Frontier independence was never won by passive spectators; it was earned by individuals willing to shoulder the burden when tested.
