Shoutout to Harriet @Orkneybrewery for helping me track down an important beer for someone. Great reminder for those in a customer facing role that a 'normal' request may actually mean a lot, Harriet gets a giant high five for the assist.

Read @jordanconn 'American Men' over the weekend, had so many subtle hopes, fears and nuances to what my therapy clients (and myself) experience as men, really captured a feeling that I rarely find in print. Highly recommend.

Big app therapy systems like BetterHelp pay graduate-trained psychotherapists $30 a session, in case you are wondering about its quality
"Costco, $COST, workers now officially make $31 an hour—and can expect raises for the next two years," per FORTUNE.

Each person in a therapy room is unique in their story, their experience w/in that story, their identification w/ that story, & the role they play w/in it. Treating constructs, abstracts, & assigning group traits w/o seeing the person only perpetuates why they are there at all.
“We are treating individual human beings. Not constructs… not representatives of a group or demographic” Exactly what professional organizations, practice guideline committees & too many training programs forget. As if there were a collective mission to erase the individual…

Turns out achieving financial/career success doesn’t ultimately lead to joy. Having relationships open to vulnerability and acceptance, feeling a sense of working towards an idea bigger than you, and approaching life with psychological flexibility seems to do the trick, though.

Reflection and ritual are how we keep loved ones with us after they die. Once you can find the enduring values that you shared with them, and see their soul in your actions, every day is reflection and ritual embodied.
I always reflect. Dealt with death since I was 5 years old. But totally see not wanting to remember as well.

Nobody can, this is unsustainable for those blinded by fear and anxiety, and even more so for those grossly impacted by the potential outcomes. This is not a functional way to live in society. I relate.
This election cycle is making me want to IMPLODE. I really & truly hope the tide turns after this one because I cannot do this every 3 or so years, it’s too much.

Late to the game on this one, but this is such an amazing thing to see. In such an anxiety riddled time of existence, it's refreshing to feel that something genuine is being communicated. Even if it takes an Elmo to do it.
Grief is not a purely negative emotion. Over time, it becomes bittersweet—sadness is joined by love and gratitude. Nostalgia is a healthy response to loss. Longing for the past motivates us to appreciate the present and improve the future. The goal of coping is not to erase pain. It's to gain purpose.

Between stimulus & response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth & our freedom. - Frankl Cultivating awareness, gaining a sense of self-efficacy, & FINALLY treating ADHD has made this quote click for me (at 36yo).

Access to pre-k education is an insanely great ROI. If I remember correctly from my undergrad days of researching ed policy, every $1 is returned somewhere between 10-12x in societal cost down the road. Keeping kids prepared to learn and reducing hardship on families.

Reading things like this every day, reminding myself of the approach to the work is just as much the actual technique of the work.
There's something beautifully humble in Thomas Moore's approach to therapy that many of us could learn from when another chooses to open up and share their soul with us in whatever capacity. From his book, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦-𝘌𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦.

So nice to see folks that really "get it" when it comes to how we function as human beings. Reducing PAT to changes in cognition, neuro functioning, or ineffable experiences misses the point of what it means to actually live, exist, and interact in our lives.
