The NDP, who enacted UNDRIP in BC, are heading into the 3rd round of court battles arguing that UNDRIP should be kept as aspirational. The Liberal gov’t is arguing likewise back east. The spinning, backpedaling and rhetoric is off the charts
Replying to @ellisbross
@ellisbross MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley Ellis Ross is speaking currently at N2N 2026 Day 3. Minister Ross is speaking today about UNDRIP - the United Nations Declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples.

Sounds simple but it isn’t. I can see lawyers/consultants lining up to represent the 600 plus bands in Canada for years to come. We already have a process in BC to achieve this called BC Treaty negotiations. Check out how long that has taken as an example
Wab Kinew calls on Ottawa to abolish Indian Act: "I'm not sure if that lines up with your vision of Canada, that we still have a race-based form of identification in this country. It's long overdue that we have a relationship with Indigenous peoples in Canada that reflects who we are as Canadians today."

"You do not represent the vast majority of our communities." A searing rebuke posted by @BlackfishNorth's Chris Sankey on LinkedIn yesterday addresses @terry_teegee & @UBCIC's grand chief Stewart Phillip and secretary-treasurer Marilyn Slett. linkedin.com/feed/?highlight… If you have trouble viewing Sankey's note in LinkedIn, see the full post below: The people have spoken There are 3 indigenous leaders from 3 indigenous organizations Im going to address here & hopefully have an in person discussion Terry Teegee Stuart Phillip Marilyn Slett We must remember: the same people who voted the ndp into office for 10 yrs are the same people who voted them out There are indigenous people concerned about UNDRIP. Many of you already heard & read my position on the issue. I steadfast on the topic BC has the worst GDP in the world. Indigenous life expectancy dropped by 6 years under the ndp & a good portion of people are still living in terrible conditions I will say this: the 3 of you do not represent the vast majority of our communities. It is my opinion that you have done more damage to our people then helped. You put us in an extremely difficult position by your accusatory rhetoric that in my opinion has spread across the country for the last decade Calling everyone & everything a racist for disagreeing with the issue deeply damaged our support system Its my opinion that your irresponsible play with the ndp created a divide by providing the party with damaging advice that has hurt the reconciliation process and support Your media messages day in & day out regarding climate change, race & racism & the constant attacks against our resource sector has damaged our relationships with broader British Columbians. I hear it everywhere I go. Its frustrating & disheartening to hear the racial backlash Both Indigenous leaders, Industry & the parties will need to work together to repair relationships Its up to us to mitigate the extreme right & left wing views by bringing our province back together & recognize we are stronger together I welcome anyone, especially you 3 to debate me or have a conversation in person or live panel discussion on how we got here The online social media campaign strategy you have come to like & support edited & took Mike Hicks's comments out of context & once again painted an ugly picture to the public about an individual's character. Do people understand how damaging that is to families & communities? Granted, Im not one to hold back. Infact, I can be a real a$$hole. Even wrong at times, but even I know when things have gone too far Like so many British Columbians we are fed up with the cancel culture & culture wars. Its not helpful & its harmed & destroyed so many relationships Mike is a well liked human being and has just emerged victorious in Juan de Fuca-Malahat race To the elected. Take note at Dallas Brodie's election results. Everyone thought she had a huge following. She finished dead last in her riding. British Columbians are fed up with the ignorant statements about us, which is contributing to racist comments directed at us. Polarizing the indigenous file isn't helping bridge relations either. This needs to be corrected All parties need to focus on uniting British Columbians, get our economy running and health care improving Respectfully Chris Sankey

The new @Conservative_BC govt will bring in the Respect Local Democracy Act so no premier can again call a concurrent provincial election. @LDoerkson said he hasn't decided if they will hold a fall session, but first priority will be to raise the personal tax exemption to 32K, which will amount to about $1000/yr back.

Doerkson thanked @Dave_Eby again for the years he has given to public service and addressed "the British Columbians who voted for another party yesterday," saying, "I heard you. Starting today, I am your premier as much as anyone else's."

Asked about DRIPA, @LDoerkson said his govt will repeal it, likely in the spring legislation session. "It has not worked in this province, and frankly, it has caused more problems to date than than I think potentially anything else."

.@LDoerkson said today interest payments are "choking the economy" & commits to an independent investigation into BC's finances. Said the $1B accounting error by the @bcndp has him "terrified" at what else they might discover.

The @Conservative_BC has won a majority govt, overturning @bcndp ridings across the province. This will resound as a cautionary snap election tale in PoliSci classes for years to come.

I'm just noticing that the BC NDP platform is titled "BC Strong" and the BC Conservative's is "Stronger BC." Clearly there's room for another party to run on "Even Stronger BC" or "Strongest BC" or ....? #bcpoli
