As an acquaintance with some of the church ladies who had solid concerns about the consumption of horror, it is not fair to say they are in a "war" against horror. All of them would understand that anything that stirs up fear is not by itself bad. There has to be a context to horror and fear. The examples they gave are the never ending consumption of horror movies and true crime style podcasts that can be as pervasive and soul-rending among young people as p*rn consumption. As Christians, we are commanded to guard what we put before our eyes and what we allow to enter our hearts. Think Proverbs 4:23-27. I don't think any of these "church ladies" would be against something that is fear inducing or horrible, per se, but would want that placed into a context. Take for example the recent movie Whalefall, that tells the story of a young man swallowed by a sperm whale. I can't speak for all of my followers, but the idea of being in the ocean with a mile deep cavern beneath you, surrounded by murky darkness and then to be hooked on a flaying giant squid and dragged into the mouth of a whale whole, is something that would certainly horrify me. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did audio the book and it is a truly compelling story that has at its heart a young man dealing with the turmoil and estrangement from his famous scuba diving father. The whale swallowing part gets us to that human drama. So there's a context. Compare that to other movies that entail what is essentially graphic torture, death, mutilation, like Green Inferno, Hostel, the Terrifier movies, Hellraisers, etc, and the twisted fascination people have with those kinds of film is something that ABS and my other church lady acquaintances can rightly be concerned with Christians watching.

LOL. My friend Rich Christiano wrote and directed this movie. It was one of his better amateur films. When I was in college, we would meet at his house for Bible study and he would basically talk out the plot of this movie with us. The name of the fellow profs in the film are named after us kids who met at his house! IT is wild that he was prescient with all that is happening with the CN Grifting Complex.

Curious how in 2002 there was a Christian film called Time Changers that wrestled with a related issue: "Teaching morality without Jesus as the standard would be detrimental to future generations," Exhibit A: 2026 youtu.be/RYCqZOEpPxE?si=jtsM…

george washington really crossed a river, fought the british, and then decided the biggest threat to america was the english language. “we’ll call it a dozen, but only for 12. hamburger has no ham. buffalo wings have no buffalo. and nobody is allowed to ask what’s in a hot dog.” bro founded a country and immediately made a language-learning app necessary.

But I was reliably informed by the CN Grifter Complex that such things is immediate and permanent bannishment.
I have personal experience with this kind of situation. My wife came to the US on a religious worker's visa and served as a commended worker at a Christian Bible school. Her paperwork was being handled pro bono by a Christian lawyer, but he failed to file her paperwork in time, and the visa was revoked. When she found out about, it was too late to renew, and she was told there would be a five-year cool down period before she could apply again. My wife decided to stay in the US with an expired visa rather than leave the ministry for five years. When we married, it took the involvement of another lawyer who definitely was not pro bono, and a raft of paperwork, including letters to the immigration judges and having to find sponsors. In the end, it took nearly three years and cost us almost five thousand in legal and filing fees, but she got her status cleared and was issued her green card. When her green card was set to expire 10 years later, we opted for citizenship instead, and now she doesn't have to worry about it anymore. Also, the immigration lawyer told us that being in country with a lapsed visa doesn't make one an illegal alien, as you came in legally, but it certainly means you've overstayed your welcome.

Update from the Seys: “My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process.”
