“Over 20 journalists recount the Delhi Police’s use of brute force against them: At the anti-SIR protests, the Delhi Police’s playbook appears to have one rule that prevails above all else — detain journalists, no matter what ID they carry. An October 11 Supreme Court order against this did little to deter the personnel on ground” — The News Minute: thenewsminute.com/news/over-…

On Tuesday, the Election Commission said all was well: The 14 objections by two of its three members were "suggestions," every decision was "unanimous." With in 48 hours, on Saturday, it issued NINE decisions. Read them against the 14 notes. It's a U-TURN, not in what it says, but in what it does. And it still leaves some hard Qs unanswered. Stay with me. (1/10) 🧵

The Press Club of India is shocked and deeply concerned that the Delhi Police decided to detain at least two journalists who were covering a protest at Jantar Mantar on September 25 regarding actions of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. We urge the @DelhiPolice to apologise to the journalists who were not able to work and whose equipment was lost because of this incident, and to refrain from acting in this manner in the future.

Read my column in today's Economic Times. This is not a review. And this is not about the #Yash-starrer #Toxic alone. This is a plea to every Indian filmmaker churning out the soulless, generic tripe that's being called "pan-Indian cinema". Please stop.

telegraphindia.com/opinion/t… Perceptive piece: India’s political communication ecosystem is entering a new phase.  And influencers, short-form video and meme creators are becoming political actors in their own right.

There's a great deal of polarization affecting impact, with greater virality for those strongly anti-establishment as well as those strongly pro-estab (and the latter also get govt revenue). And the algorithms are opaque - no question of transparency in those: @kapur_ritu @TheQuint
