The sad truth is it wasn’t a prediction, it was just common sense. But what do I know…….🤷‍♀️

Journalism’s first obligation is the Truth, not an accurate rewrite of a news release

"To put it another way, this is a CBC senior director saying that it is not the job of the CBC to do fact checking at all. Something got published and we’ll just take what it says as fact as-is. For one, this is just peak journalistic laziness. For another, it’s extremely asinine to basically defend the practice of being extremely lazy in the process."

Outstanding. Essentially, they claim its only their job to rewrite the news release without any obligation to the truth.

I don’t get it. This makes any real data privacy concerns worse! But if there’s a true national security reason, we’re not being shown a shred of evidence. Canadians should be treated like adults, not patted on the head and told our security establishment knows best.
My post on struggling to make sense of banning the TikTok company but leaving the app alone. If there are privacy and security issues, address them. But this doesn’t fix those issues, weakens enforcement, and lost millions in support for creative sector. xitter.cf/mgeist/status/18542773…

"The internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences," @PascaleStOnge_ we need to chat. Unless it's "opposite day" and nobody told me. Is it "opposite day"?
Looks like the Heritage Minister rejected Bryan Adams valid criticisms. Says the internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences. Oh, and it's not a "tax", it's a "base contribution" which magically solves everything: freezenet.ca/heritage-minist… @SwBenzie

"The internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences," has to be the stupidest thing to come out of the mouth of a Trudeau minister since Melanie Joly last spoke. – at Vancouver, British Columbia

Well done. I enjoy anything that points to the massive levels of economic illiteracy in most political reporting.

AFR Reports @acmadotgov's ridiculously included @manofmany, @TimeOutSydney, @Broadsheet_Syd on an eligibility list to get paid by digital platforms. No honest reading of the law by ACMA would result in this & it has implications for their proposed misinfo/disinfo bill. 🧵 1/13

And now those who back govt funding for journalists unleash their venom and innuendo on those who refuse to take the cash, preferring to survive on subscriptions, advertising, donations and sponsorships. The message: Comply.

Hey WT actual F @globeandmail ? A guide to downloading Creators content without accreditation? I am old enough to remember when you wanted a law to ban platforms from sharing news. This is gross PR or not, take it down. @mgeist @Pagmenzies @FreezeNetca

The legal challenges against Bill C-11 implementation continue. Now streaming services are (understandably) challenging the requirement to pay 1.5% of their Canadian revenues toward news funding. Judicial review application at Federal Court of Appeal. xitter.cf/CarttCa/status/1808554…
