RIP
Sad news to report…Leonard Compagno passed away yesterday. A true Giant in Shark Research whose contributions were enormous! I was very fortunate to know him as an advisor, mentor & friend. A once in a generation researcher whose contributions will influence generations to come.

An enormous 120kg tuna, made into a skull mount with pectoral fins attached. It’s taken a little over a year to ensure all the oil and grease was out of it. These skulls are challenging to say the least, however the results speak for themselves #elasmomorph #fishskulls #tuna

Fossils are, usually, permineralized remnants of animals where the organic elements are replaced with inorganic minerals (ie. pyrite). In rare instances, the replacement material is... opal. [dinosaur femur, belemnites, plesiosaurus vertebra]

No. This is not acceptable. The methods section is the single most important part of a scientific paper. If those details are relegated to supplementary materials, then it's not a scientific paper in a scientific journal.

Why don't canines grow to the size of the largest cats? Or so I've been asked. Figured I'd make a thread on it, since I've been asked it so much and I'd like to have a definitive reference for everyone.
