Here's a view of some of the interacting galaxies in HCG 92, aka Stephan's Quintet, made from Hubble observations from Oct. 2011 (PI Sarah Gallagher). The galaxies at the bottom (NGC 7318A and NGC 7318B, on left) and NGC 7319 (right) are ~290 million light-years away from us.

This is the Cat's Paw Nebula, located about 5,500 lightyears away.
Also known as NGC 6334, the nebula got its nickname due to its supposed resemblance to a feline foot.

This image shows a black hole within a host galaxy (the pink spot near the centre) around 9.9 billion lightyears away.
Hot gas swirling around the black hole generates large amounts of X-rays, seen in red.

This eye-catching galaxy is known as NGC 5364. Unmistakably a spiral, NGC 5364 is also "a grand design spiral galaxy" — a name deserved by only one-tenth of spirals.

The Tarantula Nebula was one of the first targets studied by @NASAspitzer after its launch in 2003. Now that the infrared observatory is set to be retired on Jan. 30, scientists have generated a new view of the nebula from Spitzer data. 🕷️go.nasa.gov/36whWbL

ALT This image from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope shows the Tarantula Nebula in two wavelengths of infrared light. The red regions indicate the presence of particularly hot gas, while the blue regions are interstellar dust that is similar in composition to ash from coal or wood-burning fires on Earth.
