“Ofcom admits political speech will get caught and calls the extra false positives ‘proportionate.’”
Britain now has a speech kill switch, and as of Monday it’s armed. Large platforms must keep a crisis censorship plan they don’t have to publish, ready to fire the moment speech regulator Ofcom’s definition of a crisis is merely “likely.” That definition covers local events, regional events, and even events overseas. The content in scope includes “foreign interference,” which can apply to information that is entirely true if it’s presented the wrong way. Ofcom admits political speech will get caught and calls the extra false positives “proportionate.” Police get a dedicated line to the platforms, and they don’t need a court order to use it. The reviews afterwards happen in private too... reclaimthenet.org/britains-o…

UK Government be like: NO VIDEO GAMES, NO SOCIAL MEDIA, NO PORN, NO SEX, NO JOBS, NO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, NO FOOD, NO WATER, NO GOOD WEATHER, NO WORKING TRANSPORT
UKs Online Safety Minister has announced all in-game chat will be placed behind an ID gate. Cutting of teenagers from the ability to socialise, risking the cybersecurity of gamers and driving up costs for Gaming industry gamersvoice.org/uk-gaming-re… #SaveOurGames #Stopkillinginternet

I’m so damn tired of the rest of us having to put our biometrics onto every site we use because the government don’t trust parents to parent.

Notice how she didn't say the prosecution has to prove harm, but that the defendant has to prove a lack of harm? Sex workers are often the canary in the coal mines when it comes to legislation. They're trying out "guilty until proven innocent" on us now. It'll be you tomorrow.

Hi there, as the person who introduced the amendments which led to this ban, I can tell you that the law already bans non-fatal strangulation and attempted suffocation. Consent can be a defence in situations where there is not serious harm but is for the defendant to prove.

feel like legislators claiming that women's consent is meaningless and dismissing the possibility that we might be telling the truth when we say we enjoy particular sex acts—or indeed sex in general—is way more misogynistic than some light choking nitter.gq/CarolineVoaden/status/…
Since when was strangulation called ‘breath-play’?! There is absolutely nothing playful AT ALL about someone trying to strangle you while having sex, when you didn’t ask for it, didn’t consent and are scared for your life. WTAF…

Whatever you think of the ban, the fact that our legislators are largely unable to sensibly articulate themselves or defend their actions is incredibly unedifying. Our parliament is an unfathomably powerful institution, and we both require and deserve more care than this. nitter.gq/Jess4Lowestoft/status/…

Remember the huge 'sexting' panic that led to teens being arrested over trading naughty pictures with other teens? and American news framing this as "the dangers of teen sexting" rather than "wow, we really need to update our laws to reflect technological changes".
Important to note that vague “oh we’ll use common sense” legislation is always a dangerous basis in which to ground law. It allows for selective prosecution & persecution, often of minority groups like SWs who govs (if this this one, then a future one) may consider troublemakers.

We've been saying it for years, LGBA are anti LGBTQ rights. Here's Kathleen Stock claiming that cos she was straight well into her 40s others are too. Most LGBTQ people have an idea who they are between 6 & 16. I was 7. Very very few are as late a bloomer as Kath
Here we have it, prominent sex realist, former LGB Alliance trustee, co-founder of The (anti) Lesbian Project, Kath, fighting for conversion therapy for gay people. They were all can't that trans man be a lesbian, now it's can't the lesbian be straight? GC is homophobia

A sex worker and a British MP have been arguing in public about sex and the MP just suggested that giving a blowy can cause cancer. Only on this website.

Stand up for who/what you believe in even when it's not popular. It's ok to be right early. Hasan helped democrats win primaries by leading his community to fundraise, knock doors, and work the phones. He then had to bite his tongue when a candidate he helped win a primary had to bow to the negative framing by mainstream media and Republicans. He became the boogeyman. He was the lead on every Fox News show. His name was on the tongue of the president of the United States and the prime minister of Israel. He stood firm and continued to push his agenda all while his life was being threatened. He has earned this victory lap. Congratulations @hasanthehun
Hasan is in Minnesota right now literally freezing while marching with the people. I know a lot of you are disappointed in me, but, you have to look at the big picture. I'm hoping that as long as folk aren't trying to physically hurt you or yours, you can set aside your differences for now, and unify in this fight. Look, you may not like everyone on the team, but you got to know it's going to take all of us. Unity in the Community.

This authoritarian, purist bill needs to be belittled and attacked at every opportunity. As do thos who've created it. Mumsnet politics.

Asato has been deleting her posts regarding her bill after being rightly clowned left, right, and centre. Drafting poorly-written, invasive & authoritarian legislation: charlatanism, not a parliamentarian.

I think TERFism is responsible for this era of neo-puritanism blighting the U.K. The gender critical movement is anti-choice, conservative & authoritarian. And it’s also a nonsensical combo of extreme prurience & performative revulsion towards other people’s sex lives.

Reform Dan Harrison has resigned as leader of Leicestershire County Council following leaked audio in which he described 76 council-employed solicitors as "incompetent" while discussing making them redundant. He was also heard saying, "what I want to look at now is the women," before discussing "who to target".

Today, @jk_rowling's staunch "gender critical" ally Kathleen Stock published a piece promoting the idea that being gay might just be a teenage phase. Rowling once claimed she had "innumerable" gay people in her emails supporting her. I'm sure she'll spring to their defence today.
You've posted a cartoon showing that what you call 'trans rights' may crush gay rights, women rights, freedom of speech and freedom of belief, and yes, gender identity ideology is absolutely threatening to do that, but I'm astonished you're admitting it.
