In 3 days, the world will mark 25 years since the Islamist terrorist attacks of 9/11. An entire generation has now grown up with no memory of that morning. Nearly 3,000 people were murdered by al-Qaeda, and we must never forget the extremist Islamist ideology behind it. The wars that followed cost 457 British and thousands of American military lives. 25 years later, the Taliban again controls Afghanistan and groups such as ISIS emerged during the wider post-9/11 conflicts. The human cost was enormous, while the promised lasting defeat of jihadist terrorism was never achieved. We will never forget.
