Following their historic landslide victory, the BC Conservatives have secured a majority government. Yet beyond the legislature, the NDP continue to control nearly every public body, from ICBC to BC Ferries, filling key positions with their own appointees.
Without holding government, the NDP still command the state apparatus. They have never been the province's 'natural governing party', but if allowed to maintain their institutional footprint, they will come to be seen as the norm rather than the exception.
If the @Conservative_BC intend to undo the last decade, they must purge these partisans, shrink the government payroll, and reform the public sector. Policy is essential, but political power is decisive, and without broader institutional control, the new government will be left managing a hostile bureaucracy.

So proud of my colleague and friend @BenWoodfinden for his enormous contribution to Canadian conservatism.
Last night British Columbia elected a majority Conservative government for the first time in a century. British Columbians wanted change, and voted for it in a big way.
Playing a part in this campaign as Director of Communications has been one of the coolest things i've ever done. An incredible team that had to be put together on the fly, and pulled off a truly remarkable accomplishment. I'm so proud of so many people.
The future looks bright for BC.
The centre-right takes Hamilton.
Tempting to compare this to New Westminster out here in British Columbia; two industrial cities within a major metro, badly affected by drugs and crime under NDP-mayors.
The left is crushed there, while sweeping the metro's bigger city down the highway.

The Globe and Mail may want to mention that the poll was done by a pro immigration lobby group.
This is 100% propaganda.

This is an amazing tool, best way to follow the vote tonight.
Even when Bradford had early lead, could tell from Poliwave that he was only leading in a few wards so numbers were bound to swing.
Poliwave will be broadcasting results for almost every municipal races in Ontario including mayor, councils, school trustees and referendums. Everything you need in one page. Thanks to Association of Municipalities in Ontario

I've seen enough. It looks like Olivia Chow will remain Toronto's mayor.
Chow is building a lead in Etobicoke North. She is leading by thousands in Ford Nation territory.
She is sweeping Scarborough.
Olivia Chow is not an impressive mayoral candidate. She has not delivered as mayor.
Defeating Chow should not be some sort of herculean feat.
The Bradford campaign was just not good enough.

Masterful gambit Ms. Crombie
Replying to @ahmadelbayoumi
In an interview, Crombie, the former Liberal leader, conceded that the red label “perhaps... wasn’t a good fit.”
“I think the Liberal brand… I wasn’t comfortable wearing,” she said. “My policies were very conservative, frankly, and yet I was running as a Liberal.”

Apart from its other merits, this video includes a potent reminder of the splendour of the British Columbian flag.
Juno News co-founder @TheRealKeean rips into former Notley communications chief Cheryl Oates over David Eby’s failed campaign:
“They [the NDP] won’t export anything except for staffers.”
On Eby’s inner circle: “Man, these guys are not the brightest bunch.”

At the start of battle, a courageous American stepped forward and shouted “Brave Canadians! Surrender yourselves, we mean you no harm!” On hearing this, Charles de Salaberry stepped forward himself and fired a shot which killed the man dead. On that day there was no surrender.

Canadian heavy crude is fetching near-record premiums across the Pacific, bolstering the case for the country’s plan to build a new pipeline to its west coast.
A barrel of Canadian Cold Lake crude delivered to South Korea traded at a record $9.50 a barrel more than the Dubai crude benchmark in September.
It’s a stark contrast to the weakening price Canadian oil is getting in the US, its biggest market. Oil sands benchmark Western Canadian Select’s discount, called a differential, to a monthly average of West Texas Intermediate futures widened to as much as $28.25 a barrel in Alberta last week, the biggest in almost four years.

NEW - @BCFerries has fired CEO Nicolas Jimenez.
The surprise move, described by the board as part of a "revitalization review," comes 2 days after the BC election in which @Dave_Eby - who had close ties to Jimenez - was defeated by @LDoerkson and the @Conservative_BC
Mandate of Heaven.
I just wanted to send a thank you to the voters of British Columbia for showing up and voicing your opinion on the change in leadership this past weekend. I love my country and my now home province of BC and am optimistic this change will allow one of the most beautiful places in the world to prosper even further. I wish @LDoerkson and his team nothing but the best in the work that’s ahead. 🇨🇦

Lula spent years supporting at least three seperate neighbouring dictatorships.
But when he wins it’s of course a “BIG WIN FOR DEMOCRACY.”

It’s very disappointing to see people who usually defend democracy somehow excuse the blatant irregularities in Brazil’s election as being acceptable to “stop authoritarianism”. Even if you agree that the polls should have been extended, the fact the order to do so was received so late meant that many municipalities had already closed their election stations and were forbidden from reopening them. It seems extremely suspicious in the least that the areas that hadn’t closed them were all seemingly Lula bastions.
An election lacks integrity if rules are inconsistently applied. Even Lula partisans should be able to understand that. Unless of course they are more interested in their favoured candidate winning rather than democracy itself.
