Bringing solar power into the very fabric of buildings in India As India accelerates its clean energy transition, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) offer an opportunity to embed solar energy directly into the building envelope, bringing together renewable energy generation, architecture, and building design to create more energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. To support wider BIPV adoption in India, we are introducing the BIPV Portal for India, an innovative one-stop solution for knowledge-sharing, resources, industry information, and practical digital tools. Knowledge and Resources: Explore BIPV case studies, reports, publications, standards, manuals, training, and projects. BIPV Ladder: An early-stage framework to assess BIPV's technical, financial, environmental, and architectural suitability for a building or project. BIPV Design Tool: Explore BIPV integration through 3D building visualisation and design options, and understand potential energy generation, project costs, payback, and environmental impacts. BIPV Ecosystem: Identify manufacturers, practitioners, and architects working across the BIPV landscape. This initiative is supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Ornate Solar within the framework of the develoPPP funding programme, which GIZ implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The portal is developed by the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) in collaboration with Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MNIT); School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi; CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST); and Sahyog Designway Pvt Ltd. The BIPV Portal will be launched during the session “Innovation Ecosystems for Renewable Energy: From Deployment Leadership to Innovation Leadership” on 5 November 2026, from AM to AM, at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. #Solar #RE #RenewableEnergy #Architecture #SustainableBuildings #BuildingIntegratedPV #SolarEnergy #GreenBuildings #UrbanEnergy #EnergyTransition
