The @HERE_Lab is hiring a postdoc! Project on wealth & financial aid policy w/ Laura Hamilton & @CharlieEatonPhD. Firsthand, I can say HERE Lab postdocs get extremely supportive mentorship + a good balance of time on independent research & time on the lab's cutting-edge projects.

It was a nice surprise to hear @EvanMandery on @NewsHour quote my estimate that university endowments receive $20 billion in annual tax subsidies. I support his call to eliminate these subsidies for schools with legacy admissions. 1/
The Supreme Court is considering a case challenging the use of race in college admissions. This now raises concerns about other practices, such as legacy applicants. Author and professor @EvanMandery joined @GeoffRBennett to discuss this practice. to.pbs.org/3MzB3rB

To the economists who screamed moral hazard about student debt cancellation but not the SVB bank bailout: new student loan borrowing fell at its fastest rate ever in the first year of the repayment pause.

Hannah Appel of @StrikeDebt reviewed my book for @NYbooks. She argues that the recent University of California strike was a major step for severing UC's Wall Street ties and remaking UC as a reparative institution of collective empowerment. I agree. nybooks.com/online/2023/02/0…

I really appreciate that UCI is holding info sessions about the recently expanded student loan forgiveness. I’m joining the #UCStudentDebtChallenge. #studentloanforgiveness is important. I still have a quite a bit left and a kid in college currently accruing student loan debt.

Time to take a closer look at the "predatory processes" involved in y/our University's contract w/ 3rd party platform providers. From the article: "Our findings may be surprising to readers who have spent their entire careers in academia, especially in public universities."

It’s very encouraging to see the White House correctly make the case that student cancellation will make zero meaningful contribution to inflation.
Rush transcript of WH's Brian Deese discussing student debt cancelation's impact on inflation. Says it would be a "function of a number of ... policy design parameters," citing ending the payment moratorium.

NEARLY THREE MILLION STUDENTS MORE THAN THE MEGA-FOR-PROFIT COLLEGES AT THEIR PEAK If this isn't keeping @SecCardona and @FSACOO up at night, then something is very very wrong.
BREAKING: "Public" and "non-profit" online programs now enroll 2.75 million+ students, more than the for-profit sector at its peak - but 76% of these programs are run by private equity and venture capital firms. We need to regulate them accordingly. Paper: escholarship.org/uc/item/7p0…
