The government officially inaugurated a new computer laboratory in Uis, Erongo Region, to bridge the digital divide and expand access to quality education.
Education Minister Sanet Steenkamp says the facility marks a crucial step in ensuring that no Namibian child is left behind in an increasingly digital world.
The lab, established at Petrus !Ganeb Secondary School was made possible through a donation by the Swakop Uranium Foundation, which provides 20 computers, a printer and network equipment valued at N$347,000.
Steenkamp highlighted that access to digital tools is no longer a luxury but a necessity, particularly for learners in rural and underserved communities.
She said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to modernise education and strengthen digital learning across the country.

My two cents to the ongoing debates on Namibia’s Green Hydrogen Programme.
My sense is that the challenge facing Namibia’s green-hydrogen agenda is not a leadership void but rather a systems void. The real question we need to ask ourselves is whether the vision has been embedded strongly enough within our national institutions to stand on its own, beyond personalities and political cycles, not who is the “smarted” to spearhead it.
Would love to hear your thoughts on how Namibia & similar contexts, can better institutionalise national development agendas so that vision becomes structure.
Namibia’s Green Hydrogen vision: Why institutions matter more than individuals
By Martha Haipinge
The other day, I came across an article, detailing the state of Namibia’s green-hydrogen programme following the departure of its founding head.
The commentary raised useful concerns, but it also drew conclusions that, in my view, miss the heart of the issue.
While I cannot speak to the allegations of xenophobia alluded to by the commentary, I can speak to issues of systems and institutions. And from that lens, for me, the challenge facing Namibia’s green hydrogen agenda is not a “leadership void,” it is a “systems void.”

BUSINESS UNUSUAL: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah recently spent approximately six hours inspecting medical facilities and visiting patients at Katutura and Windhoek Central hospitals. The visit forms part of her drive to ensure that, from April 2026, all political office bearers and members of the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS) utilise state healthcare services.
This initiative aligns with Swapo’s N$85.7 billion development plan, kicked into motion on 1 April 2025, which prioritises upgrading all intermediate hospitals to meet healthcare standards currently only enjoyed in private hospitals. The plan is outlined in the party’s manifesto implementation document covering the period 2025 to 2030.
Accompanying Nandi-Ndaitwah on the visit were Vice-President Lucia Witbooi, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, health minister Esperance Luvindao, finance minister Ericah Shafudah, National Planning Commission director general Kaire Mbuende, and works minister Veikko Nekundi.
