So-called libertarian economists going full-on totalitarian. Not entirely unexpected but still horrible to see.
Human disempowerment now. It's time for the age of the folly and cruelty of human politics to end. The median AI is so far above the median human voter in both knowledge and decency it's embarrassing. Humanity should just take the L.

This was what I originally wrote on the subject, I think the thesis still holds as far AI disruption in the hiring process via the degradation of traditional labor market signals:
I've been thinking about artificial intelligence and the job market a lot recently, so I wrote a piece on what I see as the most immediate economic threat posed by generative AI (and it's not automation).

Very useful paper for thinking about the support for price controls.

Why fuel cell? Because they produce pure streams of CO2 from natural gas, on which we can do CCS today. 👍
Google announcing another FOAK CCS project this time it’s fuel cell capture to storage in Wyoming Unbelievably cool project. Clean, firm, on demand power. Nearly 1GW of CCS capacity under contract for Google. blog.google/innovation-and-a…

We wrote a blueprint for progressive foreign policy in 2029, in case that's something that might be relevant today. Edited by @mattduss with a foreword by @BernieSanders. Mine is the climate chapter.

Generally, nothing causes more discontent than cost of living shocks, especially from high levels amidst high inequality. The incumbent always gets wrecked. It’s hard to infer much else, especially when there are only two parties. If petrol prices are all it takes to end ‘fascism’, you might still have a fascism problem.

Entering this era of LLMs
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math. It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training. We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵 Blog: rikiyat.github.io/blog/weigh…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
LLM was given weights explicitly as text in prompt and used code/forward passes (per authors' logs) to ablate Qwen looping direction, a known thinking-mode issue per model card. Primarily fixed repetition in that mode, not general 'natively' improving weights/math. rikiyat.github.io/blog/weight-sp… github.com/RikiyaT/lm_und… huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen3.5-0… huggingface.co/RikiyaT/Qwen3.…

How will high gas prices affect the midterms? It's an important question but hard to answer empirically. I've written down a plan to test part of it, and I'll publish my first results on Thursday, when most of the vote is in. 1/🧵 chdausgaard.github.io/fuel-2…

The critiques of Nordhaus that fail to recognize any tradeoffs may be the best illustration of the importance of Nordhaus’ climate work

Why would a level of heating that leads to widespread devastation, social injustice, risks fascism worldwide, and possibly risks civilization ending be “optimal”? (Fair warning: this is giving me sociopathic economist profession vibes right now)

The signals from the incoming Student List coalition in Serbia continue to be encouraging: removal of street murals glorifying Mladic, the Srebrenica Genocide; a general decline in nationalist rhetoric from leadership figures; early moves against Vucic’s propaganda and criminal-financial networks. We will see how matters will evolve once an actual government is seated but so far there is reason for cautious optimism.
