Plenty of utter BS from the government and FF supporters being used to justify this monstrous decision Every tonne of CO2 we don't emit counts - and every tonne we do takes 400,000 years to completely remove from the atmosphere Politically inept too bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw8rzgvl…

I do fear that this may be @andyburnham’s undoing. Not solely because he’s approved these fields but that he does not understand the scale of the climate crisis and refuses to educate himself or inform the public - and this year the shit is going to hit the fan. When lots of people die from an extreme flood or heatwave he and all politicians wont be able to say they didn’t know it was coming. When bodies are floating down British streets climate change will suddenly become the number one issue in the country and politicians have refused to attend briefings or warn the public let alone protect us. @nebriefing now @AngelaRayner @bphillipsonMP @YvetteCooperMP @edballs @ShabanaMahmood @JohnHealey_MP #jackdaw

Record breaking rainfall in Istanbul, Turkey yesterday. Cars washed down streets. Not seen it covered on the news at all. It’s starting to look like the media is actively ignoring climate breakdown so as not to panic the public. This should be on the news. The public have the right to know what’s coming. @andyburnham @AngelaRayner @ShabanaMahmood @YvetteCooperMP @bphillipsonMP @piersmorgan @BethRigby @TomSwarbrick1 @vicderbyshire @jonsopel @maitlis @Emmabarnett @tombradby @WilfredFrost @CliveMyrieBBC @amolrajan @SophyRidgeSky @TVNaga01 @OborneTweets @JohnSimpsonNews @carolvorders @KamaliMelbourne @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK @StanCollymore @GNev2 @skynews @itvnews @ITNProductions @adamboultonTABB @KayBurley @kayeadams @janem @mrharrycole @janem @rachelburden @bbcnews @skynews @IainDale @ShelaghFogarty @bbcnickrobinson @tomhfh @susannareid100 #climatecrisis
🚨The Public have got to wake up. This is Istanbul, Turkey, tonight and it’s just the beginning. Last year Professor Hayley Fowler, a leading climatologist and hydrologist, warned the UK could face this kind of extreme rainfall; enough to wash away cars and homes without much warning. It was ignored by the media. Journalists and anyone with influence needs to lobby the Govt and the Prime Minister to broadcast the National briefing about the facts of climate change and what is coming towards us publicly on TV in the way we had Covid broadcasts. @nebriefing The public need to face the reality that we’ve all fucked up. Our media and democracy doesn’t work. I’m very aware that people think those of us who talk about climate change are crazy but the reality is developing right in front of our eyes. The scientists warnings are coming true. People want to look away. I know lots of people in my own life do. But this is just the beginning it is going to get much much worse. The planet is already hotter than it’s been in over 100,000 years, carbon dioxide levels are higher than they’ve been in millions of years, scientists are telling us our kids will not survive the coming decades on the course we are on. This is really happening and we got to wake the hell up urgently. We are already in huge trouble and it can only get worse. youtu.be/2Jq23mSDh9U?is=u830…

People must understand that the general public are in denial about how serious climate change is. A very intelligent friend of mine basically was gently ribbing me about all the things I said that we’re going to happen, which haven’t happened, according to them - which wasn’t true. I’ve pointed out the things that are coming in decades. I mentioned this summer - ? - and was told yes, it was quite hot, I’ll give you that. People don’t understand we are at the beginning of unprecedented, historic, deadly, global change and nothing will be the same again. We must stop lying to ourselves that people understand.

this should be fraud. certainly taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing Meta’s data centers.
🦔Meta classified its AI data centers as "experimental pilot facilities" on its tax return. That let the Nvidia chips inside them qualify for the federal research tax credit. Meta's research credit savings went from $700 million in 2023 to $3.9 billion in 2025 and its federal tax bill dropped nearly 71%. Meta's $3.9 billion is over 10% of the entire federal research credit, claimed by one company. The facilities include a 5-gigawatt campus in Louisiana that cost above $50 billion. Meta's own reserve for potential IRS challenges grew 45% to $18.74 billion. My Take Meta is calling a $50 billion data center campus an experiment. The research credit was designed in the 1980s for companies that tried things that might not work. Meta used it to write off Nvidia GPUs by the tens of thousands in facilities that power Instagram, WhatsApp, and a commercial AI product with 2.8 million downloads. Tax experts called the classification "kind of wild" and they're right. $3.9 billion in tax savings is a lot of money. That's money the Treasury didn't collect from a company worth $1.5 trillion. Meta's own filings show they know this might not hold up because they increased their IRS dispute reserve by 45% to $18.74 billion. If the IRS challenges it and wins, Meta owes billions in back taxes. If the IRS doesn't challenge it, every other hyperscaler files the same claim next year. Either way this reshapes how AI infrastructure gets taxed. Communities already fight data centers over noise, water, and property values. Now the tax code hands them a $3.9 billion subsidy on top of it. Hedgie🤗

🚨 Wow. Major breaking news: Why the hell did Keir Starmer suppress this? People are told govt exaggerate the threat of climate breakdown when in reality governments have withheld how serious it is from the public. UK shares findings of damning climate crisis national security report suppressed under Starmer. The UK has warned countries around the world that the climate and nature crises and the coming El Niño threaten their national security and defence, presenting foreign ministries with the findings of an explosive report suppressed under Keir Starmer. The joint intelligence committee (JIC) report, revealed by the Guardian, was scheduled to be published last October, but was suppressed on the eve of its launch by Downing Street. A redacted version was issued in January under the Freedom of Information Act, but ministers have continued to resist calls for the full report to be made public. “If a bridge is washed away, it has the same impact whether it’s done by [a foreign power] or the climate,” Ed Miliband said. “The climate crisis will affect food security, energy security, water security, and lead to migration and potentially the recruitment of farmers to [terrorist organisations such as] Isis. Countries should absolutely be treating this as a national security issue.” theguardian.com/environment/…

"They speak very clearly; scientists are precise. We can see the effects of climate change and scientists clearly say what path we should follow…” Pope Francis
Rome, Italy. People are in denial about climate change. There’s loads of comments online about drains and maintenance when in fact rainfall intensity is increasing across the planet as the atmosphere heats, exactly as scientists told us it would. It’s going to get much worse.

The America vulture capitalists now running Thames Water are trumpeting Liz Barber, former CEO of Yorkshire Water, as the new saviour of the company. Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would. Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water. itv.com/news/calendar/2024-1…

Is that it? If this is all that’s come from COBR, it’s pitifully inadequate. As crisis deepens, it beggars belief that there aren’t plans to increase resources for the fire service, max workplace temperature, community cool spaces & ban on new fossil fuels independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…
