Seeing people on here spouting utter nonsense about social constructs is bringing back memories of when the Matrix came out in 1999 and suddenly every idiot teenager thought they were Gilbert Harman
I find it deeply depressing how schools are gutting their humanities programs to become glorified tech labs. In Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began when colleges stopped teaching the liberal arts. Without history, literature, music, we have no culture and no future.
Guess what? I’m at risk of redundancy. My job - and those of my colleagues in my department and across our wider faculty of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences - is one of those currently targeted for cuts. I received a personal letter today. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2d…

A lot of newspapers are showing photos of Dr Upton and Nurse Peggie side by side.
It is worth remembering that Upton is 6ft tall and Peggie is 5 ft 6. This is what that looks like to scale.

Another books give-away, this time a collection of translations of Greek and Latin classics! A generous reader donates the pamphlets owned by long-serving teacher Mary Hardwick. Ironically, schools once banned these books! Draw is on Wed. eve: RT and follow to throw your hat in!

Because if we recognize ONLY natural advantage, then the biggest one is being male. And so in sport, it would mean that "being male" (or having male advantage) would become a talent. And being female a disadvantage. Female sport exists to exclude that "talent", to create fairness

Asked Thomas Bach if he accepted that the IOC were prioritising inclusion at the expense of fairness and safety for women.
“This is a question of justice,” he said.
What about justice for the women who have already lost Olympic medals to Lin and Khelif?

Why hasn't the journalist here done the basic preparatory research work?
Like finding out what 5-ARD is.
And reading the 2019 CAS judgement.
All this is available open access online.
It's just sloppy.
From a row about an allegedly blasphemous biblical scene to a controversial boxing match, the #Paris2024Olympics have been hijacked by culture wars between Russia and the West. My latest @TheGuardian theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Lots of people are still at this point, largely because the media has failed so horrifically at doing its main job: telling people the facts, in clear language, without fear or favour.

Sure. Being tall is undeniably an advantage in basketball.
I mean, the point is that you would be asking for elite basketball opportunities for shorter people, right? We could call it a height category.
Now if we get our wish for a height-restricted category in basketball - let’s say 5’5 or under - do you think we should let people who are taller in? If we do, what’s the point of the category?

15/ Being male is not talent and should not be rewarded more than being female. The inclusion of athletes with male performance advantages in women's sport is a violation of the very important principles of fair and safe competition for female athletes.

Now consider a female swimmer with
>checks the list of superhuman qualities people unthinkingly reel off about Phelps>
Double jointedness
A big chest
Favourable lactic acid metabolism
Reckon she’d swim as fast as Phelps?

There are 9 protected characteristics in the Equality Act. Why 'break new ground' for just two: sexual orientation & gender reassignment? Why not 'break new ground' for girls & women with the PC of sex?
'Breaking new ground' for some risks undermining existing rights of others.
Delighted to be working with @bphillipsonMP again on our equality agenda.
As Minister for Women and Equalities, I will deliver our plans to support women and girls, advance race equality, break new ground for LGBT+ rights and stand up for disabled people.
Change starts now.

It's interesting that the @UKLabour Shadow minister for Women talks about the "parenthood pay gap". It's an example of how de-sexing the language leads to inaccuracy. There is a motherhood pay gap. Fatherhood has actually been linked to a pay premium.

Ask yourself: when you wake up on July 5th, do you want a local MP who will fight for your interests, or do you want a Tory who will give you more of the same?
The choice is clear. In #BicesterandWoodstock, #VoteLibDem. 🔶

Reform UK plan tax cuts which they say will cost £70bn; however our analysis shows the actual cost will be at least £93bn.
And their funding figures are out by £15bn+
All this means Reform UK have a total unfunded cost of at least £38bn - about two Liz Trusses.
