Incredible dataset. What a cool project.
An announcement that is as personal as professional:
18 months ago, we started collecting online prices in real time to track how Liberation Day tariffs were feeding into inflation.
A lot has happened since. The BLS commissioner was fired. The longest government shutdown in US history meant CPI wasn’t published for the first time. And the case for an independent measure of inflation became much stronger.
What started as a tariff inflation tracker has since grown into something much bigger:
The Bloomberg Price Project (BPP), our attempt to build the US CPI from the ground up using alternative data.
Today, BPP covers 87% of the CPI basket, across both goods and services (more new data will be added in coming weeks). Every month, we collect millions of prices from card transactions, e-commerce sites, grocery stores, pharmacies, rental listings, corporate data, Bloomberg Terminal market prices and government records. And more data are coming.
The payoff is detail. Official CPI data let you drill down to categories such as “uncooked beef steaks.” BPP goes much deeper — breaking the CPI basket into almost 700 line items, compared with roughly 200 in the official data.
Brought to you by: myself, Troy Durie, Daniel Ripperger-Suhler, Joshua Danial and Scott Johnson from across Bloomberg Economics.

I believe the paywall on Bloomberg.com is coming down briefly so you can read this without a subscription (but you should subscribe!)

What?
They played pretty terrible in every facet -offense, defense, and special teams. It’s not a mystery. Honestly lucky they didn’t get the wheels blown off even more.
A question for tomorrow's show @SeattleSports: Where was this game lost?
The trenches? Playcalling? Penalties? Red zone defense?
All of the above, obviously, but what felt like the single costliest phase?
You need three scores and the clock is your enemy. Why not kick the FG there? Even the coaches are terrible tonight.
Not used to seeing the Seahawks get wrecked. Fun that it’s rare. Sucks that it happened in their home, in prime time.
Better light a fire - I’m going to next week’s game and I don’t want to watch a stinker.
Not one phase of the Seahawks game has been sharp tonight. Again, Bears are bringing it and we’re just not matching. This team looks stuck in neutral tonight. One step forward, one step back kind of game.

The NFC East Primetime matchups will continue unless you vote Democrat on Tuesday.

I informed Harrison Butker before that kick that my wife works outside the home. I am not sure if that impacted his focus.
Apparently, this is why she endorsed him. Insane.

This is what Haley Stevens endorsed today.
