Happy Birthday Garrett Limbrick, out of Houston, Texas & @CowboyFB 6’2 240; Garrett Limbrick’s legacy at @CowboyFB is defined by two contrasting yet deeply impactful facets of Cowboys football history; his invaluable, unselfish role as the lead blocker for legendary running backs, and his involvement in one of the most famous, heartbreaking penalties in the history of the Bedlam Series—Despite his years of stellar, quiet execution, Limbrick’s name is permanently etched into @CowboyFB lore for a controversial moment in the 1988 Bedlam game against rival @OU_Football —With 51 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and OSU trailing 31-28, the Cowboys had driven deep into Oklahoma territory. Facing a critical 4th-and-1 at the OU 19-yard line, OSU was well within field-goal range and perfectly set up to hand the ball to @BarrySanders to move the chains—-Before the snap, an official called a personal foul penalty on Limbrick following a heated sideline confrontation with Oklahoma’s Richard Dillon. The 15-yard penalty backed the Cowboys up into a devastating 4th-and-16. Mike Gundy’s subsequent desperation pass fell incomplete, and @OU_Football escaped with the victory—To this day, the call remains highly controversial among the @CowboyFB fanbase. For generations of Cowboys fans, “The Limbrick Play” represents the peak of the heartbreaking, bizarre bad luck @CowboyFB endured during their decades-long drought against @OU_Football Despite that bitter pill, Limbrick’s legacy remains that of a fierce, respectful teammate who sacrificed personal statistics to help power the greatest rushing era in college football history; 61 Today
