HBR's How to Be A Human at Work addresses the underlying issues around us as humans becoming more machine like (we think this deserves at least as much attention as the topic of machines becoming more human). hbr.org/product/hbr-emotiona…
January is a common time to redirect emotions we find uncomfortable and begin anew. Freud describes this psychological phenomena as displacement and the “redirection of an impulse (usually aggression) onto a powerless substitute target (A. Freud, 1936).”

Understanding “displacement” helps us identify when someone’s connection with someone or something is authentic and true.

"Every enterprise needs to innovate.... We have to manage not for stability, but for disruption — that, or face irrelevance." Thanks, Greg Satell @Digitaltonto
#amazinghumans - Check out the Ndlovu Youth Choir and the flautist Wouter Kellerman teaming up for a Zulu cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.” There is joy in the world. Remember that today. Thank you @SamSifton youtube.com/watch?v=JjV36ub5…

Bruno Latour’s 1970’s theory that facts were born of our own “social construction” vs. truth and “reality” has never been more true. In this article, he mounts a Defense of Science. #posttruth ⁦@BrunoLatourAIME⁩ nyti.ms/2JeiObb?smid=nytcore…

Visual memes play a major role in the way that college students are being informed about News. I predict that they will change our culture of experiencing News. For this college student generation, news is fast, visual, social, and overwhelming.

#HCoLoves this photojournalism project that documents 24 hours across America, touching the lives of a diverse array of #AmazingHumans. nyti.ms/2yqd7Cz
A fascinating @NewYorker investigation of dementia patients and caregivers – "What if a person with dementia asks for his mother, and one person says, 'She’s out shopping,' another says, 'I’m afraid she’s dead,' and a third says, 'Are you feeling sad?'" bit.ly/2OmqXPM
#HCoLoves the 22 young female photographers who documented 18-year-old girls for the @nytimes - “If we can find our common threads, we’ll realize the gaps between us are not that big...” nyti.ms/2C8AC5T?smid=nytcore…
#Selfcare, a concept with deep roots in American history, has re-emerged as a potent cultural and political symbol and "a way to insist to a violent and oppressive culture that you mattered, that you were worthy of care." bit.ly/2HdpDvM
Today, the @NobelPrize Committee recognized two #AmazingHumans for their brave efforts to end the atrocities committed against women in war zones. Congratulations and thank you to @NadiaMuradBasee + @DenisMukwege for helping us build a more peaceful world. bit.ly/2OGEKAS
In a sociological reflection on the contemporary use of the term "toxic" across the domains of American culture, politics, and the web, @LaurenOyler writes that, "Rather than clarifying the cause of a murky issue, 'toxic' often does the opposite." nyti.ms/2Qqxsyh
After conducting field research to investigate pop-up "experiences," @AmandaHess writes, "Observing a work of art or climbing a mountain actually invites us to create meaning in our lives. But in these spaces... our role is hugely diminished." nyti.ms/2OkdAPR
Many traditional gender norms have remained powerful. “Whether you’re in Hanoi or Shanghai or Baltimore, you understand the script. You get the messages of girl vulnerability and girl weakness and boy strength and boy independence.” nyti.ms/2MRmvDN
#HCoLoves this reflection on the symbolic power of children's backpacks. "Backpacks bridge the distance between school and home, shuttling homework and lunchboxes and beloved toys for show-and-tell in between the two most important places in a kid’s life." bit.ly/2Mvnh9l
