International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations. Statement on the Outcomes of the Geneva Meeting for Coordinating Peace Efforts in Sudan October 22, 2026. The sixth consultative meeting to enhance the coordination of peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan was held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Co-hosted by Switzerland and the United Nations with the participation of representatives from 22 countries and relevant international and regional organizations, the meeting discussed de-escalation, the protection of civilians, facilitating the delivery of aid, supporting a humanitarian truce that paves the way for a permanent ceasefire, halting external supplies that fuel the war, and advancing an inclusive Sudanese-led political process. In response to this development, the International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations welcomes the ongoing international coordination to end the war and appreciates the earnest pursuit to address the roots of violence and terror. It emphasizes that the humanitarian and human rights issue is the foundation of any settlement, and that the value of these efforts is measured by the actual protection they achieve for Sudanese women and men, safeguarding their dignity and their right to life and peace. Peoples are the primary source of peace; sustainable peace cannot be forged through a superficial consensus among elites. Peace must not bypass the will and rights of the people, but rather be established upon the consent of the Sudanese people through a social contract that rejects violence as a means of governance and competition. The peace aspired to by the Sudanese people establishes institutions through which the State holds the monopoly on the legitimate use of force, under the rule of law and democratic civilian oversight, to protect everyone without cultural, geographical, or ethnic discrimination. The Coalition affirms that accountability is a gateway to peace, and that peace is not a substitute for justice. The record of violations committed by the Sudanese army throughout the history of conflicts, alongside all crimes committed against civilians, necessitates accountability without immunity or selectivity, alongside an independent investigation into the use of chemical weapons and the determination of responsibilities, while upholding the rights of victims to truth, redress, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition. The hope of the Sudanese people to return to their homes must be coupled with the return of their civic dream, a legitimate authority that derives its strength from their will and movement demanding freedom, peace and justice, the return of the military to the barracks, and the establishment of a professional army separated from politics and subordinate to civilian authority. We call for translating the outcomes of the Geneva meeting into tangible measures to protect civilians, secure relief, and establish a political pathway in which victims and affected communities participate—making social justice and the end of marginalization the basis for the country's unity and stability. The peace that the Sudanese deserve is one that safeguards humanity, restores rights, and prevents the recurrence of tragedy. Advancing Human Rights • Peace • Justice 🌐 ichr-international.org ✉️ [email protected]

International Coalition of Human Rights. Organizations. PARIS, 19 October 2026. The International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations condemns in the strongest terms the drone strike on the Na'am market (Amit) in the Abyei region, which according to available information resulted in civilian casualties and property damage. According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, the attack was attributed to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), necessitating the accountability of military leadership and an investigation into the responsibility of both the perpetrators and those who issued the orders. The Coalition emphasizes that the protection of civilians and civilian markets is a binding obligation under international humanitarian law, and that any claims regarding the presence of military objectives do not justify indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks. It further warns of the repercussions of the bombing on the livelihoods of the population, peaceful coexistence and stability in the Abyei region. The Coalition calls upon the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to take urgent action and urges the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan to investigate the incident within its mandate, preserve evidence and determine responsibilities. It also calls upon the military leadership to halt any attacks that violate the protection of civilians and to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the wounded, reaffirming the imperative need to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure justice and reparations for victims.
