A commemorative photo was taken featuring the members of the General Assembly of the Association of Detainees and Missing of Sednaya Prison during their first visit to the prison after its liberation. They all endured bitter years of suffering in its depths and darkness, witnessing firsthand the worst crimes committed by its administration and guards. They also lived through the infamous siege that occurred in 2008.

♦️The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns the escalation of settler attacks, the latest of which involved the burning of a mosque and a commercial facility over the past few days. This attack is part of a broader violence supported by the Israeli government across the West Bank.
These two crimes are part of a wider strategy of violence carried out by settlers under the protection of the Israeli Occupation Forces. They represent a direct extension of the genocidal, ethnically cleansing, and apartheid policies imposed on Palestinians. These incidents are not isolated, but rather components of a systematic campaign aimed at displacing the indigenous population and forcibly subjugating the land.

🇲🇽 Weaving threads of resistance in #Mexico
In 2024, survivors of torture and family members came together for the first National Meeting of Victims of Torture, led by local organisations like CEPAD, Fundar, and the Red Nacional de Peritos, with OMCT’s support.
Torture survivors and families shared their struggles with impunity, stigma, and repression — but also the roots of their resilience: family, community, faith, and collective action.
💬 “Despite the processes of pain, this document reflects the affection, solidarity and those threads woven to resist this path," – torture survivor and participant.

Field researchers and members of the legal team at the Palestinian Centre for #HumanRights interviewed 100 Palestinian former detainees arrested by Israel in #Gaza between October 2023 and 2024.
The report 'Torture and Genocide' found that in addition to severe deprivation of food, detainees were subjected to violence and humiliating conditions related to access to food and water.
Interviewees were forced to eat and/or drink while handcuffed and/or blindfolded. Some detainees were kicked, punched, or beaten with sticks for asking for food and/or water. Soldiers would place food and snacks in front of detainees which they could not reach while laughing and insulting them, or even eating in front of the hungry detainees.

♦️Since launching its genocidal war on #Gaza, Israel has detained thousands of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, almost all without charge. Simply being from Gaza was enough to warrant detention, ill-treatment and often #torture, as Israeli investigators sought information on Hamas and the hostages it holds.

📝📄📢 Since 7 October 2023, Israel has launched one of the most violent assaults on the Gaza Strip, causing catastrophic harm to its 2.3 million residents and continuing decades of systemic oppression since 1948.
📄 PCHR’s report, Voices of the Genocide, based on 1,225 victim and eyewitness interviews and extensive evidence, documents mass killings, starvation, destruction, forced displacement, and other acts demonstrating the ongoing genocide. It also presents direct statements by Israeli officials and applies legal analysis under the 1948 Genocide Convention, urging immediate international action.
@RajiSourani , Director of PCHR, described the genocidal crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, stating:
💬 “From the very first moment of the aggression against the Gaza Strip, it was clear to us, as human rights defenders and eyewitnesses, that we were witnessing genocide. The nature of the attacks—including aerial bombardments on residential neighborhoods and vital civilian infrastructure, widespread killing and destruction, forced displacement, and the deliberate starvation of civilians—combined with the initial statements of political and military leaders of the Israeli occupation, constitutes a campaign of genocide targeting the entire Gaza Strip. The fundamental principle of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide is immediate intervention to prevent such acts before they occur. It is a disgrace to the so-called civilized world to stand powerless, complicit, or supportive of the Israeli occupation as it continues to perpetrate this crime over more than 21 months.”

A new step has been taken towards uncovering the fate of forcibly disappeared persons and embodying the importance of joint efforts in this humanitarian issue, as today the support platform for the National Commission for Missing Persons in Syria was launched. This significant achievement comes in cooperation between the Commission, the Association of Prisoners and Missing Persons of Sednaya Prison, and Syrian civil society organizations, opening new horizons in the journey to seek the truth and uncover the fate of tens of thousands of missing and forcibly disappeared over the past years.
This platform is not merely a technical tool but a bridge for communication and unifying efforts between the National Commission, as the independent governmental body entrusted with this national file, and civil society organizations that have worked on this issue for years. This cooperation confirms the importance of effective partnership between official institutions and civil society. The expertise and databases possessed by civil society organizations, including the association, form a fundamental resource for the work of the National Commission.
From its side, the Commission provides the official and legal framework necessary to expand the scope of research and access to information, which ensures the integration of efforts and directs them optimally.
