Thank you all so much for your help in TWO @IndigiData #Indigenous #data #science workshops this summer!
We focused on the topics of gene editing, metabarcoding, Indigenous data sovereignty, IP law, and data ethics on Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux and Lummi lands. Until next year!

I spent this past week on Dakota homelands at @IndigiData to learn how Indigenous data sovereignty, kin and relationality, and ethics will interact with new machine learning/AI techniques and gene editing.
It was an absolute blast filled with laughter, poetry, and community 🧵

#IndigiData2023 #Cas9
We are honored Dr. @KeoluFox joined us virtually to talk about how non-Indigenous biologists misinterpret DNA to narrativize harmful stereotypes of our peoples. It’s important to empower #Indigenous peoples to use DNA to take back control of our stories. #IndigiData2023

Can’t wait to present to the students at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Nation in Prior Lake, MN this week! I’ll be talking about responsible stewardship of digital data. ✊🏼🙌🏼
I love that we created @IndigiData to bridge conversations about #Indigenous data sovereignty, #data rights, informatics that is cultural, holistic, ignores academic-discipline lines
And:
- hosts on Tribal lands
- Indigenous-led
- has endless coffee ☕️
