It’s pretty obvious the data center moratorium would be something tradable for expanding Medicaid plus something else.
The governor-elect of Texas, Gina Hinojosa, has explicitly said that all currently permitted datacenters in Texas will be allowed to finish construction. This essentially covers all of the 2027 and likely well into 2028.
She is going to pass laws that ensure that all *newly* permitted datacenters going forward for delivery in 2028/2029 will pay taxes, commit to no increase in power prices for consumers, don’t impact water availability for people, be constructed with union labor and give “Texans a seat at the table.”
Sounds reasonable. She doesn’t want to lose a lot of good blue collar jobs and property taxes for small towns in rural Texas.
Datacenter commentary starts at 6:30 in this interview.
Also attaching her official campaign position from her website in the next post.
Sidenote: After watching a bunch of her speeches and interviews, I do think she is a political talent and probably has a future in national politics.

My “Twitter IS real life” theory is that a lot of these guys have treated this place like a Silicon Valley group chat since Elon bought it in a way that has been detrimental to the public perception of AI, data centers, and tech in general.
They say lots of weird stuff here now!

Ya know, it probably is all over. But the bear case of “we will have all this demand but nowhere to plug in the chips” just doesn’t pass the sniff test

just mathematically speaking one trend that can't last forever is the largest public companies in the world growing 15-20% a year in an economy with a nominal growth rate of 3-6% (or a world with ~5% growth rates). at some point somethings gotta give

Reddit call was absolutely fascinating. Everyone should listen to it as a bellwether for where the internet is going
- AI Mode is increasingly default Google experience
- AI Mode provides rich info and data in line, less incentive to leave search
- AI Mose incentivizes dialog, Google wants to keep you engaged to serve more ads at each turn
- Google will milk search for as much revenue as possible as they transition from a search company to a cloud service and chip company
- As traffic from humans becomes more scarce this will put Google in an increasingly adversarial position to the rest of the internet
- This is a massive headwind to all media type companies who are not destinations
- This is a massive headwind to all content-driven go-to-market motions especially in the SMB. You have seen companies like HubSpot and Monday.com get crushed by this funnel collapse
We are entering the end game - a knife fight for the remaining and dwindling volume of human traffic on the internet

Nasdaq now up only very marginally less than 10% for the year. Basically stagnant. The living will soon envy the dead

I used to tell national reporters covering Fl for first time - one way to understand Florida, go to a Bears/Bucs, a Steelers/Jags or a Dolphins/Jets game and guess the home team.

Demand is so high for agents that 2 weeks after downloading 23% kept muse on their phone
One of the big issues with Muse? Retention.
The bearish side of these agents is that consumers don't have much incentive to stick to them. What is the switching cost? None.
I believe Muse will do great, but a major work in progress still. Retention matters.

Voters are excellent to savant at analyzing first-order effects of policies but don’t consider second-order at all.
Your popular policy has to both work and not cause terrible side effects (eg, inflation, wars, and rapid cultural change).

One of my favorite popular theories from early in the war was the notion that attacking Iran was part of Trump's grand strategy to deprive China of its sources of oil--moving against Venezuela and then Iran in sequence.
Anyway, China's response to the war was to cut its oil imports, which it did with little trouble. Meanwhile, the US will be buying diesel from Russia.
I honestly think this is intellectually devastating for the Fed and tech supporters, because it shows markets really believe inflationary/long-end yield pressures are due to AI rather than other factors and rate hikes will do the job.
