Huge savings!
arxiv.org/abs/2305.12773 is out so let’s talk about *wiring up quantum computers* 🧵...

The setting for this photo was chosen because of the uncanny resemblance between the military hero in the painting and quantum hero Dave Wineland.

Qubit addressing in the QCCD using the local control resource you 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 have - the DC electrodes.
We're very pleased with gate! The single-qubit gate landscape is interesting. Getting local lasers/microwave is challenging, and so methods where there is just one global drive are very appealing... There is however a problem ... 1/n 🧵

At @OxfordIonics we think hard about how to *actually* build useful quantum computers. And now we're expanding our architecture team to think about it even harder!😉 More info below or via DM oxfordionics.bamboohr.com/jo…

The thing you have to respect about Zeilinger is that he brings this cool dog to conferences (or at least he did this one time circa 2009).

Putting traps on the surface of chips really eases fabrication, which is great for scalability. But flat electrodes don’t produce the best fields. We’ve worked on adding a 3D printing step to get back to an optimal geometry. arxiv.org/abs/2205.15892

Happy side effect that they make your traps look like brutalist architecture.

DAMOP! Excited for our first in-person conference in donkey's years. Missed the first day thanks to United Airlines, so straight back to business as usual.

This massive tome, humbly named "quantum-optics-notes.pdf" by Daniel Adam Steck: atomoptics.uoregon.edu/~dste… he's also still regularly updating it based on feedback.

One of the joys of working at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building is walking by this picture of Noble Laureate and quantum physicist David Wineland.
