Toen ik pas parlementslid was (hééél laaaaaang geleden 😉) stemden we een verbod op gezichtsbedekkende kledij. Het was een van mijn allereerste wetten. Geen burqa noch niqaab in onze straten. Maar ook geen bivakmutsen en dergelijke. Groenlinks was furieus en vond het een ‘schending van de mensenrechten’. Het Grondwettelijk Hof zag echter geen probleem. De wet kon gaan.
15 jaar later zie ik nog steeds - heel soms - burqa’s op straat of de nieuwe creatievere versie, zwarte hoofddoek, zwart mondmasker en pikzwarte zonnebril. In de manifestaties zie je dan weer veel bivakmutsen of zelfs volledige hoofdsleeves (je ziet ze soms ook bij hools in het stadion). De Black Block antifa’s dragen zelfs zwarte kledij, handschoenen en paraplu’s tegen camera’s. Het is precies een paramilitaire organisatie. Een staat binnen de staat.
Ik denk dan altijd aan onze verbodswet van 2011. Het is goed dat hierop nu strenger toegezien zal worden. Overal. Geen burqa’s, maar ook geen bivakmutsen.
In onze samenleving durven mensen elkaar aankijken en aanspreken. Geen religieus juk, noch crimineel gedrag a.u.b.
