The most controversial interview I did. We ripped up a lot of industry players and leaders. We held back nothing in this conversation with @TomGranot
Tom Granot started writing code when he was 12. Today he barely writes it at all. He spends his time helping deep tech founders figure out how to sell what their engineers built, and making YouTube videos about it. @TomGranot, Founder of Syntax GTM, started as an engineer, built marketing from scratch at an early-stage deep tech startup, and now advises technical founders on go-to-market. He has strong opinions about Israel's B2B marketing scene, and he shares most of them here. Founders spend months selling a message they never tested. Marketers spread themselves across too many channels. And Israel, for all its engineering talent, still has no reliable way to train people who can sell deep tech, which is why so many startups hire an American marketer as soon as they close an A. Yoel and Tom also get into why Americans write better copy, how Israelis and Americans use AI differently, and Tom's theory that WhatsApp groups help explain why Israel is one of the heaviest per capita users of Claude. Back for Round 2 with @shapira7392 from @XTEND_XR
What if ONE person could control a swarm of drones? Aviv Shapira from @XTEND_XR explains how multiple drones can run under one operating system, execute complex moves. Yes! Even through a window and how AI is changing what’s possible with ethics and human control staying in the loop. Hosted by @YoelTIsrael.

New olim trying to break into Israeli tech should start with an updated LinkedIn profile. Once you do, Helena Baker says to then reach out to a couple of people a day in your field, at companies similar to your last one. Open with something about them, share that you’ve just made aliyah, and make it easy to say yes by offering three specific times to meet. What helped you build your network in Israel? Few know that Israel is a mobile gaming powerhouse. Shouldn't be surprising when you think about it... Mobile gaming is SaaS + monetization.
Some of the most profitable mobile games in the world were built in Israel, but the industry behind them is rarely mentioned when people talk about Israeli tech. Dan Bouzaglo, Founder & CEO of Snooze, is building his own and getting people talking. He is turning a solo game format into multiplayer, because he thinks that is where mobile gaming still has room to grow. Dan also hosts a Hebrew-language podcast for young founders, and he brought a lot from those conversations. He talks with Yoel about how online casinos and Forex shaped Israel's gaming industry, why Israeli tech found its footing in B2B, and why he pays attention when a founder says "I have to" instead of "I want to." Some of the best career moves take a bit of courage. For Yael Barsheshet, one of those decisions led her to her role as Partner at @Deep33Ventures, where she’s watching the AI supercycle unfold up close. She feels very good about that choice, and she thinks the industry could use more of that kind of professional courage. What’s the boldest career move you’ve made? Hosted by @YoelTIsrael

The wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union had a massive impact on Israeli tech, and Meir Valman, author of The Network Effect, says you can find it in a specific sector. Entrepreneurship in Israel took off in the 1990s, yet very few of those early founders came from the former Soviet Union. They had grown up in a centrally planned economy where starting a company simply wasn’t part of life. What they brought was engineering talent, and a lot of it. Those engineers became a core part of the workforce behind Israel’s tech boom. Hosted by @yoeltisrael

The impact on American immigrants to Israel will be 10x the Soviet immigrants impact on Israel. The next generation of Israeli tech is gonna be insane.

Best advice I have seen for people in tech: "Stay weird. Think independently. Be honest with yourself. Have fun."
Shaun Maguire

I left Silicon Valley 6 years ago Why? Because it's a monoculture The most extreme group think of any place on the planet Show up to a dinner party and everyone is in tech So what do they do? They start stack-ranking each other And it's a totally ordered set: being founder of co $100B market cap > founder of co with $50B market cap > managing partner of tier 1 venture firm > hired CEO of $50B public co > founder of $10B co > etc etc Pure toxicity that nerfs creativty And then as a corollary, people are especially afraid to speak truth to power as everyone knows their place in "The Hierarchy" Reject this nonsense. Stay weird. Think independently. Be honest with yourself. Have fun.

Submarines are game changers you never hear about.
Inside INS Drakon, Israel's Newest Submarine The Israel Navy's new Dolphin II-class submarine, INS Drakon, was built in Germany to Israeli specifications. Its longer hull makes room for more weapons and expanded power and oxygen systems, allowing it to stay submerged far longer than earlier Israeli submarines. Drakon commander Cmdr. "A" and deputy commander Lt.-Cmdr. "T" spent three years in Germany working alongside German naval officers and defense engineers to make sure the design met Israeli requirements, including systems and tactics found only in Israel's version. Inside, many of the traditional controls have given way to digital screens and autonomous systems. Rear Admiral Guy Levy, the navy's second-highest-ranking officer, said AI will be integrated into more of the navy's systems, with the navy moving deliberately to resolve information security risks first. Naval officials see a future where half of the navy's systems, and eventually most of them, run autonomously. The Blue Whale unmanned mini-submarine is already in use. The submarine squadron's core mission remains intelligence collection, and new technology is broadening what it can do. Three Dakar-class submarines are due starting in 2031 and are expected to stay at sea for months at a time. The navy is also seeking approval for two more. Israelis Fit Right Into Silicon Valley Long before Israel became the Startup Nation, Israelis were already building companies in Silicon Valley. Meir Valman explains that Israelis were among the first foreign entrepreneurs to arrive in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Many found success because the two cultures shared a similar approach: informal, ambitious, comfortable with risk, and willing to figure things out along the way. In many ways, Silicon Valley already felt Israeli. Watch Meir explain why Israelis found their place there so early. Hosted by @YoelTIsrael

Noa Argamani Is Taking Her Next Step Into Israeli Tech @ArgamaniNoa has joined @VineVenturesLP full-time, helping Israeli founders make the move to the US. Based between Tel Aviv and San Francisco, she's focused on a challenge many Israeli startups face: getting established in the American market and figuring out a very different investor culture. Her path into venture began with an internship at Vine in April. Founder @ericmreiner, who previously worked at Insight Partners and Dynamic Yield, got to know her through her advocacy for the hostages. Tech was already on her radar. After her release from 246 days in Hamas captivity, Argamani and friends used LLMs to track antisemitic narratives in the media, and she developed an early startup idea for children on the autism spectrum. Now she's working with a range of Israeli startups, helping founders understand what US investors expect. Vine manages roughly $500 million and backs Israeli companies including Wonderful, Kodo, and Eon. For Noa, the focus now is on the work ahead: helping Israeli innovation find its footing in America.
