When I started getting healthy ~5 years ago, I wasn’t trying to be a bodybuilder. I just wanted to lose weight and feel… normal. I was tired of being the fat guy my whole life. My Type 1 diabetes was out of control and wiping me out physically, mentally, and emotionally. Then one day I decided to change for good. The old Mike was done. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the process of training and nutrition. It became part of who I am. What started as white knuckle willpower turned into ironclad discipline. In the process, I got my T1D under control. Consistent sub-5% A1Cs. No more rollercoaster blood sugars. No more debilitating hypoglycemic seizures... People think T1D makes this impossible. It doesn’t. If anything, it forces you to be more precise, more consistent, more accountable. T1Ds with grit make great bodybuilders. We’re already students of our own metabolism. We understand how insulin, food, and training all interact and we live it every day. Can't wait to take the stage again this year and show how I've grown as a competitor, as a T1D, and as a person. #type1diabetes #t1d #npc #bodybuilding #fitnessjourney #contestprep

If you look closely enough, breakthroughs in everything are accelerating exponentially. An exponential always starts off looking small.
this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now. it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them the last 6 months alone: - a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months) - a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months - a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year - a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3 - retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3 - an ai-designed drug entered phase 3 - a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3 - an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved - a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney - human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday stick around, it's going to get weird bio/acc

Smith Machine Sissy Squats #legdayfinisher Form started breaking down at the end due to fatigue. Don't even need any weight on the bar for these. Great way to keep the knees healthy IMO

My biggest advice to parents is to remember that T1D is something your child has, not who they are. Don't let diabetes define their childhood or limit what they believe they can accomplish. Main thing is to give them a locus of control. Teach them that they have the power to manage their disease and make changes. Empower the kids through education and experience. Discourage 'powerlessness' if that makes sense. A few things I'd emphasize: 1. Educate yourself. Learn how insulin, food, exercise, and other factors affect blood glucose. Bec9me full time students of managing the disease. This learning will never end. More knowledge leads to more confidence and better outcomes 2. Embrace technology. CGMs and automated insulin delivery systems are incredible tools. Use whatever you can you help get better control. I went 20 years with T1D without using a pump because I didnt want anything attached to me and after starting I realized how foolish it was since I got such amazing results right away. 3. Don't fear carbohydrates. Carbs aren't the enemy. Teach kids how to manage insulin around food rather than developing a fear of certain foods or creating unnecessary dietary restrictions. This ties back to #1. By carbs i mean things like fruit, oats/grains, potatoes, vegetables (whole foods) and not junk with low satiety per calorie (although occasional treats are perfectly fine too) 4. Exercise and sports. Get the kids moving as much as possible. Will help immensely with body composition, mental health, blood sugar control, etc. 5. Get involved in the T1D community. Connect with other families, attend events, and especially look into diabetes camps. Being around other kids with T1D can be incredibly empowering and helps children realize they're not alone. 6. Learn how to adjust and iterate. If someone has a shitty day or week of blood sugar control, learn why that happened and make adjustments. Just like any good engineer doing root cause analysis 😁
What strategies do you recommend for really young kids with T1D?

Great pic of me and some fellow #T1Ds at the @BreakthroughT1D event this past weekend! The woman in purple has been living with T1D for almost 60 years, while the younger guy on my far left was diagnosed within the past year along with his father in the middle. Just a month or two ago, he underwent an experimental treatment using donated islet cells in California. On the far right is keynote speaker Dr. Brynn Marks, MD, MSHPEd, Senior Director of Medical Affairs. I had the chance to ask her a few questions about upcoming therapies for T1D, and she was an absolute pleasure to speak with! 💙

FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY: Elon Musk walked into Twitter headquarters carrying a bathroom sink and delivered a message that would become one of the most memorable moments in social media history. “Let that sink in.” Just one day later, Musk officially took control of Twitter in a $44 billion deal, setting off a political and cultural shakeup that transformed the platform into X and reignited the national battle over free speech, censorship and Big Tech’s influence in politics. Pretty amazing advancement in #T1D and CGM tech 😍
This is exciting! The next implantable CGM will require ZERO equipment on the outside of your body. This will be the FREEDOM CGM from Senseonics, Incorporated. I’m a big fan of the Eversense CGM, and I actually really appreciate the external transmitter…because it vibrates! Learn more about the future of implantable CGM technology in my interview with execs from Senseonics! Tune in to the Diabetes Nerd Podcast. At the @BreakthroughT1D summit this morning. Lots of cool #T1D vendors and people touched by the disease here! Tough seeing so many kids with the disease, but it's good to show we are one community that has each other's backs 💙

Cause of death isnt out yet, but collapses like this during contest prep are most often cardiac arrhythmias triggered by severe electrolyte imbalances from diuretics and aggressive water/sodium manipulation. Stay the fuck away from diuretics. RIP

In today’s episode of exploiting diabetics for profit: Dexcom holds our life-sustaining CGMs and years of our health data hostage to force us to waive our constitutional right to a jury trial and agree to mandatory arbitration and a class action waiver in their favor.

New home gym hack just dropped: the hack squat chest supported row. It's effectively a poor man's MegaMass Linear Row with the ability to change out handles and load as heavy as you'd like. Versatility is king and this could be a nice movement addition to your training without adding any new equipment.
This is the $299 home gym version of the absolutely ELITE MegaMass Linear Row that's all over the internet. It's by a budget brand called Mikolo and can be found at Walmart. It uses 12 and 14-gauge steel, takes quite a bit of assembly, but is on linear guide rods and has a similar feel with many hand positions as the real McCoy. I prefer a T-Bar row because of the changing strength curve, but these feel extremely locked in and they often take up less space in a home gym.
