In a bleak election cycle for Democrats, Rep. @RubenGallego defeated Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race, outpacing Kamala Harris by roughly four points and by nine points among Latino men, @JRubinBlogger writes. Democrats want to know how he did it: wapo.st/3ZGtCXb

I’m running to serve as Virginia’s next Governor, because I want to get things done on the issues that unite us: our schools, the safety of our kids, and the future of our fundamental rights. In Congress, I have a record of bringing people together. I’ll do the same in Richmond.

I am normally a Pelosi fan but this is unfair. If there had been a primary the sitting VP would have won. The risk in that scenario was another 2016 Clinton v Bernie faction split. IMO, knowing what we know now, no Democrat was going to win, no matter how they were selected.
Nancy Pelosi to the NYT:  “had the president [Biden] gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race.”   “The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary. “ “And as I say, Kamala may have, I think she would have done well in that and been stronger going forward. But we don’t know that. That didn’t happen. We live with what happened. And because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time. If it had been much earlier, it would have been different”

Democrats don’t have a messaging problem. They have a distribution problem. Liberals need to get innovative about how they’ll push out the truth amid this information ecosystem dominated by a powerful right-wing disinformation machine.

The Harris campaign — and the Biden presidency — have been in both word & action the most aggressively pro-worker efforts of their kind in American history. So, genuinely, respectfully: what the fuck is he talking about?
Bernie Sanders: “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.”

We are already seeing the rationalizing of how we got here and the blaming of the political party that, though flawed, actually reflects multiracial democracy. We must resist this. Voters knew exactly who Trump was and chose him anyway. This is not about the so-called excesses of the left. As the NYT editorial board writes, Trump ran the "most racist, sexist, and xenophobic campaign in modern history." As NYT reporter Lisa Lerer wrote today, "This was a conquering of the nation not by force but with a permission slip. Now, America stands on the precipice of an authoritarian style of governance never before seen in its 248-year history." This is the unsparing truth that we must confront.

There will be a lot of finger pointing & analyzing every data point. But let’s not miss the forest for the trees here- this is an embrace of nationalism. It’s not complicated or unique. The roots of this organizing principle are in fact the foundational organizing principles of 🇺🇸

Our nation’s democratic system functioned last night and we have a new President-elect.  All Americans are bound, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our elections. We now have a special responsibility, as citizens of the greatest nation on earth, to do everything we can to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions hold over these coming four years. Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press and those serving in our federal, state and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.

If Democrats win NC and WI, Anderson and @benwikler deserve massive amounts of credit & ought to become models for how we build the party.
I got a phone call tonight from the President of the United States to express his gratitude for all the work we’ve done in North Carolina. It’s been the honor of my life to serve our Party. Thank you to the folks who made it all possible. I know we’re ready for tomorrow, NC! 🗳️

"@tbonier, a senior adviser at market research firm TargetSmart, has identified a few trends suggesting that a female backlash against Trump is already underway." More in Opinion by @JRubinBlogger in @washingtonpost ⬇️
To put it plainly, Trump’s thrashing at the hands of a smart, strong Black woman — who ridicules his crowd size and calls him a loser — has utterly unnerved him. He practically foams at the mouth talking about her, no doubt unhinged by the prospect that he could very well lose the White House, this time to a woman, and face renewed prosecution. wapo.st/3UEF2ZQ
