Christopher Morris spent two years examining the case and concluded Lucy Letby's convictions are unsafe.
Morris is an author, journalist and ghostwriter who has written or edited more than 50 books. For Reasonable Doubt: Examining the Case of Lucy Letby he interviewed more than 60 experts across neonatology, paediatrics, nursing and statistics, and worked through the trial material and the documents released by the Thirlwall Inquiry.
In this episode he sets out his argument: that the unit at the Countess of Chester was failing before anyone suspected a nurse, that infection and clinical error were discounted too quickly, that the air embolism theory the prosecution relied on does not hold, and that the expert evidence would not pass muster in any other setting.

Recently fired Cheshire police chief says that scrutiny about the Lucy Letby case outside of the courts is "not welcome."
Which begs the question: Why, then, did his police force pay a Daily Mail podcaster for "publicity" in the middle of Letby's trial?
Periodic reminder that Caroline Cheetham, the co-host of the Daily Mail's podcast about Lucy Letby, took secret payments from Cheshire police while the trial was ongoing.
She never disclosed this to the public, or to her bosses at the Daily Mail.

What Lord Justice Jackson's judgement describes is an expert who can be predicted and expected to attempt to obstruct or pervert the course of justice. Any sceptic looking to trace back to the origin of 'lucy letby conspiracies' should look to this judgement.

Any expert that went up for the defence it would have been career suicide. Dr Waney Squier for example.

Absolutely.
It's a terrible format for scrutinising dubious prosecution expert claims.
Even when the claims are ludicrous.
It's a broken expert system... It needs an earlier stage, overseen by a judge, in which defence experts get to question people like Evans directly.

This is an extraordinary presentation and, regardless of the rights and wrongs in the matter, hints at some deeply sinister practices inside the medico-legal establishment - @ClarkeMicah

With the renewed interest in Lucy Letby case, here's an important point missed by every commentator:
from a probabilistic view, there was nothing very unusual about the so-called spike of neonatal deaths.

Here’s something I heard recently:
When there is a plane crash, there’s an investigation and recommendations are implemented immediately.
Yet in maternity care, there have already been 1,400 recommendations in the last 30 years but nothing has been implemented.
Why is this?

At the IFAD protest in Edinburgh, one of the speakers who really stood out was Christopher Logan, founder and campaign lead of the Yellow Butterfly Group, which campaigns for Lucy Letby and for her case to be given a fresh and fair retrial.
Christopher spoke passionately about the concerns surrounding the Letby case and the campaign for the new expert opinions and evidence to be properly considered.
There is currently an ongoing review of Lucy Letby’s convictions by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which is specifically responsible for considering whether new evidence or arguments may give rise to a potential miscarriage of justice.
Whatever people may think about the Letby case, there is a much wider issue here that I believe we should all be able to agree on: the right to a fair trial and the right to have genuinely new evidence properly examined.
Christopher also highlighted something particularly relevant to our own campaign. Although the case he is fighting is within the English justice system and our campaign for fair trials is focused on Scotland, many of the frustrations faced by people challenging convictions and alleged miscarriages of justice cross that border.
Different legal systems do not mean completely different human experiences.
When people believe that important evidence was missed, that expert evidence needs to be reconsidered, or that a conviction may not have received the scrutiny it deserves, there must be meaningful mechanisms for those concerns to be heard.
That is why Christopher’s message at IFAD connected so strongly with what we are campaigning for through Jim’s campaign for fair trials.
This isn't about deciding someone's guilt or innocence from outside a courtroom.
It is about making sure that justice is genuinely fair, that convictions can be properly challenged when significant new evidence emerges, and that nobody is left feeling that the system has closed its doors on them.
Different cases. Different jurisdictions.
But many of the same barriers, frustrations and questions about access to justice.
Fair trials must mean fair trials for everyone.
