The AAMC shared preliminary data for the 2024-2025 residency application cycle.
For specialties that use ‘big signaling,’ applications per applicant are down ~35-40% from a couple of years ago.

“We’re making med school tuition-free so students can choose primary care!” always struck me as a specious argument.
So the same students who are influenced by economic incentives when choosing their medical school… suddenly won’t be when they’re choosing their specialty?
