A C-47 still doing C-47 things! As the vintage aviation community has become involved in helping with relief and rescue efforts in relation to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the C-47 "Chalk 40" of The Liberty Foundation (@libertywarbirdexperience) stepped back to its transport roots this weekend to carry supplies to affected areas.
Today they flew to stops in middle Georgia gathering supplies, and then dropped them off to the relief efforts being coordinated out of Vidalia, GA. Leaving Vidalia, they proceeded on to Virginia Beach, VA. They will be part of the Warbirds Over The Beach Airshow at @militaryaviationmuseum, where they will be taking on donations of supplies through Sunday. They will then head back to another area in one of the affected states with the newly donated supplies before they make their way home. "Chalk 40" is a WWII veteran and served as the transport aircraft for The Greenland Expedition where they retrieved the P-38 "Glacier Gal".
One of our staff went along for this mission on "Chalk 40" today to drop supplies to those affected by Helene. Enjoy a few moments from the journey, and the fact that this old gal is still serving its original purpose after all those years.

A very long thread with lots of information and numbers, but it paints a very clear picture on how the indecisive and inefficient Administration has hurt Ukraine's ability to defend themselves, and why its probably not going to change anytime soon.

Hi Elon!
The post you're quote-tweeting seems to suggest that, based on Social Security Administration data, 220,731 illegal immigrants have registered to vote in Arizona since January 1, 2024.
A few things if I may be so bold (since I have easy access to Maricopa County's data -- which makes up 62% of Arizona):
1) Only 39,653 new voters have registered in Maricopa County in 2024 in total. For Arizona, that number is about 60,000.
2) Arizona's voter rolls have actually been going down. In Maricopa County, we've gone from about 2.6 million active registered voters in 2020 to about 2.4 million active registered voters in 2024.
3) SSA is not used to check citizenship. It's used to check proof of identity.
4) Motor Vehicle Divisions are typically used for proof of citizenship. In Arizona, since October 1, 1996, drivers have had to provide proof of citizenship for driver's licenses (except Type F). We use this data to confirm citizenship for the vast majority of registration applicants. We also have some other tools at our disposal, or we communicate directly with the voter to get documentation.
5) If the voter cannot provide documented proof of citizenship, but still attests under penalty of law that he is a citizen, he goes on what is called the "Federal Only" list in Arizona.
6) In Maricopa County, there are 20,768 registered voters on the Federal Only list. There are about 30,000 for all of Arizona.
7) Again, these people attest that they are U.S. Citizens, but they have not provided documented proof.
8) Most studies show that these people are disproportionately college-aged students (perhaps who don't have ready access to a birth certificate).
But there is 0 validity to the suggestion in the original post that 220,731 illegal immigrants have registered in Arizona in 2024.
Hope this helps.
We loved the recent rocket launch that we could see in the Arizona sky. Thanks for all the cool sciencey stuff you continue to do.

We live in a time increasingly resembling the second half of the 1930s. I couldn't live with myself with the knowledge I didn't do more to stop another Hitler. In light of the Republican wavering and in memory of Navalny I will give $100 towards FPV drones for Ukr for every RT.

Tucker: Why did you invade Ukraine?
Putin: Very well, where do I begin?
My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it. At the age of eighteen, I went off to evil medical school. From there...

I'm already fed up with this story, so this is probably my last comment on this matter. There was no deal between Ukraine and Russia in March-April 2022. Indeed, both sides were working on the agreement, exchanged draft versions of it several times, and at some point Zelensky did believe the deal was possible, but what the Russian delegation ultimately put on the table - Ukraine's neutrality, far reaching disarmament of Ukraine's armed forces, and treaty provisions allowing Moscow to permanently influence Ukrainian internal politics - turned out to be not acceptable to Ukraine at all, and Ukraine was eventually right to reject it. The U.S./UK pressure on Zelensky is just one hell of a conspiracy theory. Russia wanted the Western countries to broker this deal by means of them giving - to neutral and disarmed, so basically helpless - Ukraine security guarantees. And Boris Johnson also was right to refuse, since this would mean the West would be obliged in future to defend Ukraine with its own troops on the ground (as Ukrainian army would have been largely dissolved). His answer to Zelensky was: no, we won't sign up to this deal, but we will help you defend yourself here and now, you decide. And Zelensky took the offer, especially given the fact that the Russian troops around Kyiv were running out of steam, and the Bucha massacre was revealed at that time, so the public mood in Ukraine changed too. The rest of the story is widely known

That a deal was done has now Ben confirmed by 8 people inc 2 members of Ukraine delegation. And in great detail almost all of which tallies from each of the sources
What remains unclear is exactly what BoJo said & if he was acting under US orders or on his own
And also unclear if ze was convinced by BoJo arguments & made his own decision (easy to believe) or if he was pressured into abandoning deal by west pressure (also easy to believe)
This is going to be one for the historians
Our piece on confirmations

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
No agreement between Ukraine and Russia ever occurred. Western leaders warned Ukraine they could not offer security guarantees in a future deal. The conspiracy theory that a secret deal existed and was scuttled has no basis and only surfaced after Russia's retreat from Kyiv
