π£ NEW CAMPAIGN! π£
Introducing the Womenβs Rights Network Red Flag Campaign: Retail
Millions of women and girls are being put at risk of sexual crimes in mixed-sex changing rooms. Our new Red Flag Campaign Retail focuses on the safety of women and girls in high street stores and supermarkets.
Mixed-sex changing rooms attract sexual predators looking for easy access to women and girls in a state of undress. Our research in Leisure Centres found that 86-100% of sexual crimes in leisure centre changing rooms occurred in mixed-sex facilities. (Our leisure centre research is published on our website.)
Now we are turning our attention to the dangers of high street changing rooms.
π©π©π© Women and girls are experiencing voyeurism, illicit photography, even sexual assault, because retailers have abandoned single-sex changing rooms in favour of βinclusiveβ mixed-sex changing facilities.
Retailers have a duty of care to their customers and we say denying women the privacy, dignity and safety of a single-sex changing room is a dereliction of their duty to keep us safe on their premises. 1/3

"Our priority is to ensure that the law is applied correctly across all Welsh services".
Diolch @Sioned_W - your public commitment to this is noted.
You and other @Plaid_Cymru Ministers (and all Senedd parties) have an excellent opportunity to ensure that commitment has actual substance by attending our next Cross Party Group on Women's and Girls' Rights . We have an expert legal speaker to assist you!
Diolch @Art93229Art for your question (and for caring about vulnerable female prisoners).

"We as a government are committed to act in accordance with the law and expect all public bodies to act in accordance with the law".
Well there you go health boards of Wales. What's stopping you? @Heledd_Plaid is telling you to pull your socks up and amend any unlawful policies that you still have. Women's rights are protected in law and men should not be in women's wards or women's single sex spaces at all.
We keep hearing that health boards are waiting for guidance from @WelshGovernment. Yet Welsh Government have amended their own policies 'on the quiet', and are making clear their expectation, while health boards are still exposed to financial and legal risk while they endlessly 'wait'.

NHS England has FINALLY banned biological males from womenβs spaces, following the Supreme Court ruling that βsex means biological sexβ.
I asked the Welsh Government for an urgent statement reassuring us that NHS Wales will soon follow suit, because women and girls in Wales have waited far too long for these basic protections.

"We are going to observe the law and the law is quite plain from the case to which she just referred. And it's a matter of drawing up our policies in accordance with that law".
We are pleased to see this response from Elfyn Llwyd, Counsel General to the @WelshGovernment, relating to the Supreme Court judgment on the meaning of sex, and with regard to single sex spaces and services.
The good news for Elfyn and for @RhunapIorwerth is that WRN Wales can help you with that. The law is not optional and you should be complying with it NOW.
Diolch @natasghar for the excellent question.

Nansi Williams - the heroic dinner lady who died saving the lives of schoolchildren during the Aberfan disaster...
On October 21, 1966, a Welsh school dinner lady Nansi Williams threw herself over five children as a wall of coal waste crashed into their school. All five survived. She did not.
That morning, children at Pantglas Junior School in Aberfan, Wales, were preparing for their final day before the half-term holiday. Nansi, a local woman who worked in the school dining hall, was collecting dinner money from pupils.
Above the village stood enormous mountains of waste from the nearby coal mine. For years, residents had lived beneath them, despite concerns about their stability.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., one of those mountains collapsed.
Around 150,000 tonnes of coal waste and water surged down the hillside, smashing into houses and engulfing the school.
Inside, Nansi saw the danger approaching.
She ordered five children to get down, then threw herself over them, using her own body as a shield.
The impact killed her.
One of the children, Karen Thomas, later recalled how Nansi had jumped on top of them as glass shattered and the wall collapsed. The children initially did not understand that she was dead. They tried pulling her hair to wake her.
When rescuers recovered Nansi's body, accounts say she was still clutching a pound note collected for school dinners.
The Aberfan disaster killed 144 people, including 116 children.
An official inquiry later placed responsibility squarely on the National Coal Board. The catastrophe had been preventable.
Nansi had no children of her own. In her final moments, she saved five who belonged to other families.
For decades, her extraordinary sacrifice received little recognition beyond the community that remembered her.
Now, approaching the disaster's 60th anniversary in October 2026, a campaign to honor her has succeeded. A commemorative Purple Plaque is scheduled to be unveiled in Aberfan on October 30.
Five children went home because Nansi Williams never did.

Well, this is a historic moment.
WRN Wales are delighted to support the work of this vital Cross Party Group at the Senedd, along with @MerchedCymru.
Womenβs and Girlsβ rights are established in law, and must be reflected in policy and practice across Wales. Weβll be working hard with Senedd members to ensure that.

Plaid Cymru has its gender knickers in a twist.
The leadership robotically repeats that it respects and will adhere to the Supreme Court judgment on the meaning of βsexβ, βwomanβ and βmanβ.
But that's a bit of a problem if you check out the Values on their website or their manifesto pledges.
And it seems the party's Senedd Members aren't coping too well when it comes to getting this confused and contradictory messaging across.

No new law. No lost rights. No excuses left.
EHRC chair Mary-Ann Stephenson has restated that the Code of Practice doesn't create new law, it simply explains the Equality Act 2010, confirming what the Supreme Court ruled: Sex means biological sex. Under the Code, single-sex spaces (toilets, changing rooms, wards, refuges) must be used on the basis of sex, not gender identity.
The Code has been in force for months @WelshGovernment. Time to respect the law, do your job, and instruct public bodies in Wales to scrap their unlawful policies.

"The silence and then the trickling antisemitism growing into a tsunami of Jew hate from so-called feminist friends has shocked me to the core.
The scales have dropped from my eyes. There is clarity now. I see them for what they really are. Itβs hard to lose friends. To no longer talk about politics over cups of tea, thinking we were fighting for feminism together. Well, we werenβt, and October 7th proved that.
Non-Jewish women like me stand with our Jewish sisters and hold feminism accountable for its failure."

The only person responsible for rape is the MAN who commits it.
Following a night out, a vulnerable woman was taken home by a man who, instead of ensuring her safety, chose to rape her, leaving her trapped and hearing voices discuss undressing her.
This case of yet another predatory, opportunistic assault is an example of how deeply entrenched rape myths remain.
Silence isn't consent. Pressure doesn't get consent. Consent is a free, informed yes, and it can be withdrawn at any time.
Our thoughts are with the victim. We hope she is receiving the vital support every sexual assault victim deserves.

Child on child sexual abuse in schools βwidespread.
The Guardian reveals the shocking extent of a problem the Children's Commissioner calls βwidespread, normalised and too often brushed under the carpetβ.
8,500 sexual offences against under-13s recorded by police between 2021 and 2025. The majority of the victims are girls; the perpetrators are overwhelmingly boys.
This demands serious government resources, such as dedicated regional response teams to quickly and expertly address reported incidents. Schools are simply not equipped to deal with this scale of abuse; they cannot exclude on suspicion, lack the capacity to robustly investigate, and school staff are not - nor should they be expected to be - trauma counsellors.
Schools themselves do not create the behaviours we are seeing; the root causes run much deeper, and this is where focus must land.
