I work in medicaid, it infuriates me just how many illegals with 10 kids get free benefits.

I once attempted to publish a breaking news story and found out that I had sent it live without including the body of the article. It was posted to social media, people argued for and against the headline, not a single person noticed there was no actual story.
It happens a billion times a day but I don’t get why people just react to headlines of stories they’ll never read. Just do something else!

My favorite is this moth (Macrocilix maia) with a representation of two red-eyed flies eating bird poop on its back. It also smells bad, like bird poop.
In what may be one of Earth’s craziest forms of mimicry, researchers in 2023 reported a species of rove beetle that grows a termite puppet on its back to fool real termites into feeding it. Learn more during #InsectWeek: scim.ag/40kQtbI

Overall U.S. imports at -64% has got to be one of the most insane numbers in economic history. I don't think people quite comprehend how disruptive that's going to be.

We’ve actually lived in a Boomerocracy since the 50s, because there’s *so many Baby Boomers.* They’re a freakishly large cohort which warps everything around them. When they were teenagers, youth issues dominated, when they were young adults, etc. and now elder issues dominate.
We live in a gerontocracy. The average age of the US voter is 55 years old. Ten years short of retirement age. The US’s social contract is extracting wealth from the young and redirecting it to the wealthiest, most prosperous generation in history

the breathlessness of this post combined with what follows is hilarious
The leap I witnessed in AI this week has me shaken. If you've followed me, you know I don't really make statements like this. I've been hearing how AI will change everything for years, but there's been little beyond promises. Nothing that can be used now. That just changed:

Great thread. The lawmaker two-step is: First, make your tax cut temporary so that it requires offset only up to the expiration date. Next, cancel the expiration date - with no offsets of the extended cost - because "extending current policies doesn't count as a new tax cut."
1/ 🚨 Budget gimmick alert: Congress is flirting with a “current policy baseline” to justify extending 2017 tax cuts without counting the deficit impact. Sounds wonky, but it’s a dangerous precedent that could open the floodgates for reckless spending. Here’s why it matters. 🧵

Effective immediately, the Department of Transportation will no longer participate in celebrations based on immutable traits or any other identity-based observances. These distractions do nothing to keep planes in the air, trains on the tracks, or ports and highways secure. In the wake of two devastating plane crashes, my focus is singular: enforcing the highest standards of safety and accountability. From now on, everyday of every month we celebrate transportation, beautiful infrastructure, and safety.
