Kings. An odd institution, home to this course, but also HEM. It’s a bizarre dichotomy to state a non-medically qualified person can do a part time MSc & become an ST3 Dr equivalent, but the same person studies MBBS in HEM, and becomes an F1. FWIW, I think HEM is correct 2/

Plenty of private sector moaning in the media regarding the @BMA_Consultants industrial action on 25th & 26th November... "But they're paid so well!" An enlightening graph below from a @NuffieldTrust article. Nurses and midwives next? #NHS @TheBMA nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-it…

Government value consultant's demands at £1-2b. It's worth noting that the NHS budget is £280b (so =0.7% of budget max). Consultants are at the very pointy end of providing NHS care & also *driving improvement*, this isn't done by people with spreadsheets or in Whitehall. Improving burnout, morale, retention & time to improve services isn't a nice to have it's essential for the very survival of the NHS.

This one graph encapsulates why consultants are striking. Since 2008 they have had a 20% real terms pay cut! Significantly more than the rest of the public sector. Enough is enough. To all my consultant colleagues, this GP stands with you in solidarity.

Beds … with the lowest number of hospital beds the NHS continues to cut them The premise an empty bed cost £. They don’t, they provide flexibility, opportunity to admit someone while another bed is being emptied. Blocked A&E cancelled operations! NHSE 5000 more permanent beds

Position statement. If Zionism were simply about establishing the right of Jews to live safely wherever they are, including in their ancestral homeland, I would be a Zionist. But this isn't what Zionism is about. It is, and always has been, about creating a Jewish-majority state in a land where the majority of people are not Jewish. This necessarily means either removing most non-Jews or denying them citizenship. Zionists have done, and are still doing, both. I believe in the right of ALL people to live safely wherever they are. I oppose every means used to drive people out of their homes and lands: mass murder, ethnic cleansing, systematic violence, denial of citizenship, violation of basic human rights. Zionism uses all these means to create and maintain its Jewish state. Therefore I am an anti-Zionist.

I am a medical student at KCL, all of the GEMs and now newly appointed HEMs have a background in nursing, paramedicine and PA. Each and every one has said Y1 of medicine has superseded their competence and is finding medicine a surprisingly difficult degree.

Yet, anyone who dares to mention such an extraordinary concept, despite workforce plans & 'other' central decision-making being perfectly clear in this regard, is castigated for toxicity. Can we start being honest about what is happening now & what future holds for UK healthcare

"It seems to me that a decision has been made to replace doctors and to remove distinctions between doctors and other professions. It's no coincidence that the NHS continues to struggle with efficiency, productivity, and safety problems while we progress further towards a blended workforce without the necessary training supervision or regulation." No one should risk their health seeking NHS care. We need to be seen by trained doctors not a PA who has had 2 yrs training on top of a possible history or English literature degree with exams so difficult many patients would pass. GPs have a minimum of 10 years Medical training
No one should have to risk their health or, in the worst cases, their lives at the hands of cosmetic cowboys. People deserve proper care not to be exploited as a way to make quick money. Our new rules will ensure high-risk procedures are only carried out by properly trained professionals, protect under-18s and hold rogue providers to account.

The perfect response: ‘As a paramedic, ACP seemed sensible in our small team. I chose GEM instead. Now I see poor ACP assessments, referrals and needless tests daily. Even GEM year 2 exceeded their competence. Saving money? A costly, potentially harmful delay before seeing a GP.’

Slimy politicians try to rewrite history One of the key people in decimating the NHS over the last 25 years and pushing it aggressively towards the forced privatisation. British public need to hold charlatans like this to account Forever apathy will get the country nowhere
It was a disastrous mistake in 2004 to scrap family doctors. I tried and failed to bring them back. Will this government do any better?

The government has until December to decide whether to pull the NHS out of its £330m contract with Palantir - a US spy-tech firm that has facilitated genocide in Gaza. Andy Burnham needs to pick a side. We have picked ours.

This is how they will allow PAs (and ACP/ANP/ACCPs) to do anything a doctor can do. Anything. As long as you are 'credentialed' and someone at your local hospital says you can do it, they will be able to do anything

They wrongly decided ten years ago that training doctors was too expensive because apparently not everyone needs a doctor. And now ironically the health service is much less efficient and health outcomes are getting worse.

It is hugely frustrating to see the person who was the longest serving SoS for Health @Jeremy_Hunt paraded out on almost every media channel as a bastion of patient safety - from maternity, to pandemic preparedness etc. Many of the issues we currently have started on his watch!
Unregulated expansion of PAs started in 2015 It took 10 years to finally get the Leng Review 15m after being published it is still not being followed, sadly there are some who are still pushing for undiagnosed (undifferentiated) patients to be seen first by PAs in GP practices0
