I come from a Star Trek family. My mom grew up watching the original series, & my grandfather called her, a skinny kid, "Bones" after Dr. McCoy. My brother & I came up with TNG (our childhood dog's name was Mr. Worf), & as an elder millennial, Picard was *my* captain. Stewart played Picard with a perfect balance of stoicism, integrity & compassion that was reflected in how he lived his life. What a loss.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.
Dem pundits want Michigan Senate candidate El-Sayed to denounce someone else's ad about taxpayer money sent over to Israel.
They are not calling for Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek to denounce his own blatantly transphobic ad.

Congratulations to Lula on his extraordinary reelection victory in the Brazilian presidential election.
Lula has stood up for Brazilian workers & democracy — and will continue to do so in the next four years.
Throwing trans people under the bus shows voters you're a coward. Now, everyone sees Turek buckling under the lightest pressure and wonders how little it would take for him to sacrifice them.

AdImpact: Josh Turek releases new ad in which he opposes trans women competing in women’s sports
“No Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it's important to have rules.”
“It's why I oppose males competing in female sports ... I'm against taxpayers paying for sex changes, too.”

Democrats actively deploying the 'Even If You Win You Lose' strategy....already.
What Republican have you ever heard say some crap like this?
.@SenBrianSchatz says that if Democrats take the Senate, the party's left wing needs to be strategic about not proposing things "that the president of the United States is guaranteed to veto."
"If we want to be more aspirational, if we want to make more bold policy changes... that's for 2028."

Joe Biden:
• got Dems to turn on Me Too on behalf of his creepiness
• proposed $30 billion in new police funding
• had Dems pretending that reactivating Bush-era loan forgiveness Trump had ended was some sort of debt jubilee
• single-handedly killed opposition to fracking; record-breaking fossil fuel extraction
• ran on vetoing Medicare for All if it ever crossed his desk
But sure, "Leftists". 🥴🤡

they would rather let republicans win than give in to the demands of the left. they hate facing their voters.
James Carville says he'd rather have Republicans keep control of the House than Democrats winning the chamber by 5 seats.
"I would rather the Republicans keep the House by five than the Democrats win by five, because if that happens, they’re hostage to the DSA. Like, Hakeem cannot move. There’s no place for him to go."

Neera Tanden criticizing Ro Khanna for fighting for the billionaire tax is perfect. A complete admission of what’s actually going on here. A moment in which she has told on herself. Her and her faction speak for billionaires — and this is more proof of that.

Some pretty insane details on Gillibrand here including:
– Her comms director bought up to 30k of bitcoin and ether one week before Gillibrand announced a bill putting both under friendlier CFTC oversight.
– Her chief of staff invoked the Senator's role as the DSCC’s top fundraiser while pushing other Dem aides to back her crypto-friendly legislation
-Her 22-year-old son raised $30M for a startup that is backed by crypto investors, including a key Gillibrand donor.
Gillibrand on staff trading crypto: “I could care less what they do with their money. This is not a nanny state.”
I asked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand if it bothers her that her staff trades crypto while she works on legislation that benefits the industry. “This is not a nanny state,” she said.

There’s a segment on this site that believes that there is some mythical imaginary group of Republicans who are going to vote for the Democrat because of this rhetoric.
If this is the top issue for a voter, then they are so far gone and will not be voting for a Democrat.

Gavin Newsom hands huge win to Trump and his billionaire cronies.
Today, billionaires have yet again bribed, censored, and bullied their way to the top. As a result, a billionaire media conglomerate closely allied with the president will soon own one of its closest rivals, including some of the nation’s most critical news outlets. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund will co-own those outlets, too.
Layoffs will follow. People from L.A. to Atlanta will lose their jobs, small businesses will lose their contracts, your cable bill and movie ticket will be even more expensive. Dissent against money and power will be even harder to find.
This did not have to happen. Thanks to an extraordinary outpouring of grassroots anger against the merger, a coalition of 12 state attorneys general sued to block it. They beat Paramount in court, winning a court-ordered pause on the merger, and beat them again at the negotiating table, getting the conglomerate to agree to pause the merger until as late as next June.
But the Ellison family does not care about the law. Instead, they loudly threatened to leave California if their merger did not go through immediately. Gavin Newsom caved to that pressure. So did Xavier Becerra. And eventually, so did Attorney General Rob Bonta, agreeing to a weak settlement that will be exceedingly difficult to enforce.
People want champions who are not afraid of rich bullies. Newsom, Becerra, and Bonta did not meet that mark. The people who work in the film and TV industry and the small businesses who support it will suffer as a result. And so will everyone who values dissent in our democracy.
This is not the end. The coalition that fought to block this illegal merger will fight to break up big media. There is legislation pending in Congress today that would retroactively break up corrupt billionaire mergers. This industry was once marked with strict rules so that a small handful of conglomerates couldn’t own everything. There’s no reason we cannot return to that reality. There’s no reason we can’t build on it.
But today is a loss, and that loss will be felt by the people who can least afford it.
