Dr. Valentina Molodaya was arrested for exposing the Azov battalion's “torture chamber” in a house near Kiev. Word got out that dozens of men were being beaten and held for ransom. Molodaya arrived in an ambulance and began livestreaming pleas to be allowed inside the house.
Molodaya had learned the men were kept there in appalling conditions and was there to treat them. (The ambulance driver was also arrested.) Protestors gathered outside the house and footage of the ill-treated, visibly abused detainees has provoked growing outrage across Ukraine.
Kirill Budanov, Zelensky’s chief-of-staff, who arrived at the scene, labeled Dr. Molodaya a "Russian asset" - even as he admitted that there were more Azov facilities like this one scattered across #Ukraine.
The "torture chambers" have never been reported in the West. Why, as an example, hasn't Richard Engel, NBC’s chief foreign correspondent, who has covered the impact of the war on Ukrainians for years, never reported on the Azov sites, the growing protests against them, and the arrest of the Ukrainians coming to the aid of the detainees?
