I carry you on
With me, I promised you
I would
And I do
I float around
And show up announced
In the places that you knew
I draw you out

It feels good to say your name
It’s all I have now
What a wonderful sound

Whatever your views on today's events, we can't help but feel sadness that a government once elected with bold promises of transformational change now seems to be on its last tumultuous legs.

It is absolutely indisputable that if another party leader appeared to have fabricated something like this, Conservatives would be calling for their resignation that day. #bcpoli

BC Greens announce taskforce for MMIWG2S+ and plan to disband RCMP’s critical response unit CRU-BC
VANCOUVER, BC — Today, BC Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau and Dana-Lyn Mackenzie, candidate for Vancouver-Yaletown, announced two major public safety reforms: the creation of a Taskforce for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+), and the disbanding of the RCMP’s Critical Response Unit (formerly the Community Industry Response Group, C-IRG).
MMIWG2S+ Taskforce: a dedicated task force focused on investigating the alarming number of cases involving missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI people. This taskforce will operate under civilian oversight from Indigenous communities, emphasizing women’s leadership and following the recommendations of the Red Women Rising report and the Reclaiming Power and Place report from the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S+
Disbanding the Critical Response Unit: a branch of the RCMP responsible for defending industrial interests at the expense of public and Indigenous rights, the unit has harmed relations between law enforcement and communities. This change is essential in restoring trust and rebuilding public safety systems.

Did John Rustad just threaten to force every person who has an overdose event into INVOLUNTARY CARE … even if they would choose to go voluntarily?
I want to address something in tonight’s debate that I found extremely offensive.
@JohnRustad4BC, you don’t know me and you don’t know my story. When @Dave_Eby pointed out your disingenuous actions by lying to me when we met on the street last month, you responded to him by saying:
“Where you have somebody who ODs and is brought back to life, clearly they are not making the right decisions for themselves. We need … to get them into INVOLUNTARY TREATMENT so that they can be able to recover.”
I DID NOT NEED TO BE FORCED INTO CARE JOHN, I CHOSE TO GO.
I went to recovery many times, and I relapsed many times. Addiction is a CHRONIC RELAPSING DISEASE - few people succeed in recovery treatment on their first try, but thousands of us will keep VOLUNTARILY going to detox or die trying.
The suggestion that you’re going to force medical treatment on people in an old, locked mental hospital — EVEN IF THEY WERE WILLING TO DO THE TREATMENT ON THEIR OWN — is offensive, outrageous, and a violation of British Columbians’ charter rights.

It’s essential that the patient voice be heard in these conversations. These women were harmed by the guidelines, and yet @cantaskforce thinks that they don’t need to be updated.
They need to look at the outcome of the guidelines, not just randomized trials.
It was an honour to testify to the Standing Committee on the Status Of Women. Thank you for the opportunity to discuss the misinformation given to healthcare providers and the public on breast cancer screening. As a country, we can do the right thing and act now. @markhollandlib it's time to suspend the breast screening guidelines. With every passing day, we're allowing later stage diagnoses to occur and Cdn women to suffer needlessly #cdnpoli

But the corporate lobbyist running in PG Mackenzie is AOK?
There should be a law that says you can’t run for office within two years of being a registered in-house corporate lobbyist, if you ask me.

I’m back from my trip to the Kootenays, where I spoke in a few high schools, telling my story about how I overcame my own addictions in order to live the life I’m so grateful for today.
This visit was special — I found out it was grade 11s who heard me speak last year that wanted me to come again, and they also introduced me to a packed auditorium!
The goal of these talks is prevention. (Don’t worry haters, I take time off from my healthcare job to do these talks).
The reality of this crisis has been muddied by political hysteria over harm reduction, safer supply and “drug dens.”
So I tell students about the ACTUAL risks of the toxic drug supply, and the importance of taking care of your mental health. There were lots of hugs, tears, and conversations with some amazing students who stayed behind after TWO bells for lunch went off, to continue to ask questions.
What we discussed: reaching out is a strength not a weakness! And that human connection can change the direction of people's lives.
I am very humbled and blessed.

Also, notice that when the @BCGreens talk about mental health, they understand it's not just about addictions and homeless.
Something I wish the other parties would appreciate.
Less sensational, but impacts almost everyone. Access to care is a quagmire now. This helps.
CRESTON B.C. — Today, the BC Greens announced a plan to make mental healthcare accessible, effective, and safe for everyone in British Columbia.
“We need to ensure we remove the barriers to accessing mental healthcare,” said BC Green Leader Sonia Furstenau. “It affects all of us, either personally or through someone we love. But too often, people can’t find or afford the help they need. We want everyone in BC to get mental health support when they need it without worrying about how to afford it or where to go.”
The BC Greens plan:
1MSP Coverage for mental health professionals: We will ensure that every BC resident has access to six fully covered visits with a mental health professional, such as a psychologist, under the Medical Services Plan (MSP).
2Regulation of psychotherapy: We will introduce full regulation of psychotherapy in BC to make sure only properly trained people can call themselves counselors or psychologists so you know you’re getting the right support.
3Mental health integration into 911: We will integrate mental health as a fourth option into 911 services and expand the Peer Assisted Care Teams (PACT) program to ensure that mental health crises are met with appropriate and compassionate responses.
4Mental Health Act review: We will conduct an all-party review of the Mental Health Act and create an Independent Office of the Mental Health Advocate to ensure that the voices of those with lived experience are heard and that the legislation is updated to reflect modern understandings of mental health care.
"We need a government that ensures mental healthcare is accessible in community health centers and schools,” said Nicole Charlwood, BC Green Candidate for Kootenay Central. My children could benefit from regular school counseling, saving us thousands. I know I did in high school during tough times. Access to a counselor helped keep me connected and on the right path.”
The BC Green Party is committed to making immediate upstream investments in preventative care, ensuring better lives for everyone now and for generations to come.

A huge story in my opinion. We should not allow lobbyists running for political office, possibly compromised by documents in their employer’s possession related to a national scandal. In my opinion that could constitute kompromat and could sway performance as public servant.

⭐️THE B.C. GREENS HAVE IT RIGHT⭐️
The debate over alcohol prohibition at the start of the last century likely looked a lot like our current convo about the drug crisis.
Some sensible people said: “Here’s what we need to do to take organized crime out of the equation and reduce the number of people going blind & dying from bathtub gin: legalize, regulate & tax to pay for the inevitable negative outcomes.”
And for years all the pearl clutchers said: “No, we can’t possibly! Drinking is a sin! We’ll punish them, force them into rehab, send them to jail.”
👆In all of human history, this strategy has never worked.
Sonia Furstenau and the Green Party are the sensible people. Yesterday, she & former Chief Coroner Lisa LaPointe announced their plan to deal with the toxic drug crisis, and frankly, it’s the only one with the potential to work. This is what the solution to the toxic drug crisis actually looks like:
➡️ Drug education in schools and enhanced mental health supports - let’s prevent people from turning to drugs in the first place!
➡️ Regulated treatment & recovery programs and data to track outcomes and availability - currently we know very little about these programs and their success rates. How can they improve what they’re doing when there are no metrics?
➡️ A broader system of prescribed alternatives, including fentanyl and a “demedicalized model” that provides REGULATED, PREDICTABLE substances to people who are seeking them. Less death! Less injury! Less impact on communities, first responders & health care!
As Lisa LaPointe said yesterday: “Regulating drugs is not a radical idea. Governments regulate things all the time. That is government’s job to regulate products so that they are safe. It is irresponsible to allow thousands of people to die across our country without stepping in.”
EXACTLY!!!
