✨ In a dark world, a little light. In one saturated with imagery, a different way of seeing. My Behind the Photograph series is an archive of craft beyond the frame. It's my way of sharing the power of photography and how you too can take remarkable 📸 👉 digest.andymarshall.co/behin…

Ferdinand Hodler originally designed the Woodcutter painting for the Swiss 50 franc note in 1908, today it is one of the most famous of his images, serving as it does as a symbol of strength, earthiness and resilience.

Just back from a sun-kissed shoot. I had to drag along these two reprobates with me which always make my working life a tad more stressful, especially when there are a million & one delicious scents to investigate. To those who know it should be obvious where :)

I get annoyed with these sites too and found these two really funny.
I never get the ones with the squares correct ….

Jubbergate & Little Shambles, York. A step back in time, to c1920, when Jubbergate led to Little Shambles. 14th large medieval house with a large 17th century crosswing, now Gert & Henry's restaurant, fill the view. The rest has been demolished.

This bottle was never opened. Roman bird flasks like this one were filled at the furnace and then sealed shut by reheating the tip of the tail, with no stopper and no opening anywhere.
To use the perfume you had to snap the tail off. An intact bird is an unused bottle, which is why there is still liquid inside this one after 2000 years..

I went back to Kubota Garden yesterday to photograph the twisted Japanese maple, this time from underneath, looking straight up into the canopy.
The bark was still wet from the rain, dark and smooth against the orange leaves. When I showed my wife this one, she said it looked like a sculpture.
I think she is right. It looks less grown than carved.
Do you see a sculpture in it, or something else?
I keep finding new shapes every time I look at it. 😀

ALT Looking straight up from beneath a Japanese maple tree. Thick, dark, wet branches twist and curl in every direction against a canopy of orange and gold fall leaves, with small patches of pale sky showing through. The smooth bark shines where it is wet. The scene feels quiet and sheltered, like standing inside a sculpture.

After nearly an hour of tense stand-off, two Kingfishers fight over territory on the River Kelvin in Glasgow this afternoon. This an adult male and a juvenile. This kind of aggression has been seen here several times in recent weeks. No audio. #birds
